Just been checking my bits and pieces for year end. I didn't know this existed.

Apparently I can claim back up to £5k per year for Employers Class 1 contributions.

As far as I can tell, I'm eligible. We use Quickbooks for payroll and we hadn't ticked the box for the last five years. As I understand it, HMRC will automatically sort all this out (not confident) when I next submit my ERS (due this week).

So am i likely to get a massive credit on my PAYE which is due? Or a fat cheque? Or...?

As usual the HMRC website and help is as clear as mud.

I'm not sure if HMRC will sort it out frown

I do the payroll for a local Charity using Iris Payroll Basics. Ive had the EA box ticked all year but for some reason it's not feeding through to HMRC. As a result theyve been chasing me for £400 (which increases every month) despite me telling them (on the phone and in writing) that we're entitled to the EA.

Next year I'm going to use the HMRC Online payroll.

I use Moneysoft Payroll manager, always claimed EA via the tick box and had it deducted with no issues.

Would recommend Moneysoft as it just works. UI is a bit old school, a bit like fancy Excel spreadsheets, but makes for easy reading.

Small update, spoke to HMRC this afternoon. It seems the last three years that I'm due, will credit to my PAYE account on.my next submission (later this week) and will update in a couple of weeks. By which time, I can request a refund from them, or leave the account in credit which I calculate will mean no monies due for the entire next financial year.
