In todays post I recieved a letter from a company called OPTIMA, specifically Optima Area 11 Infrastructure Management, from Tamworth Staffs.
The letter read........

Dear Sir,
Area 11 Optima Infrastructure Management
M6 Motorway - Incident: Vehicle Debris on 10 - Jan 2006

1. This company, under it's agreement to manage the maintenance of the M6 MOTORWAY, will inform the Highways Agency of the vehicle debris, which occured on 10 - Jan - 2006. A vehicle Registration number Y** **X has been reported to have been involved. I understand that the vehicle was owned or driven by you on the day of the incident.

2. This company has to arrange to make good any damage or recover any costs incurred on behalf of the Highways Agency. The costs have to be recovered from the person(s) responsible for the damage. The Police report that the vehicle owned or driven by you appears to have been involved in the incident. We suggest that you send the enclosed copy of this letter to your insurance company for their attention. They should note that all Trunk roads (including Motorways) and their infrastucture, for which the Secretary of State for Transport is the Highways authority, are not insured and that the Agency does not compromise.

3.It is a legal requirement to confirm whether or not you were insured at the time the incident occured and to disclose the name and address of your insurance company. Please reply in writing by return of post. In your reply please include this information together with your insurance policy number and quote my ref number ***/****/***

I have no idea what this is all about!?
This company has not said what the alleged incident was, where on the M6 this alleged incident took place, or at what time.
No incident was reported by my driver (trusted 100%).
I've contacted the West Midlands Traffic Police, who have stated that no incident has been recorded against that vehicle registration, and even ran a PNC check, coming up with nothing.

Anyone else had dealings with this company?

Any Idea's?!

well a quick google seems to show that this company is legit ( www.jarvisplc.com/jarvisplc/media/releases/pr2002/2002-03-27/ ) and I think you had better inform them of their mistake

First I've heard of them, and google gives a homepage that doesn't seem to exist.

There is reference to them on warwickshire council's website:

www.warwickshire.gov.uk/Web/corporate/pages.nsf/Links/5ABA0B661381CDFB80256C48004C5AFC

Overall, it sounds to me like they're accusing your vehicle of having caused damage to some road furnishing - crash barrier, for instance. The insurance company is liable for any damage caused to crash barriers etc in the event of an accident ... but if you say there never was an accident, I should contact them and ask for further information before giving any details. If you do give details, they'll probably just produce an invoice and you'll have lost a great deal of control of the situation.

It's a bugger that this has landed on the door mat on Saturday, when no one is available to elaborate.
I'll post an update on Mnday.
Thanks, Simon.

I have decided that the best course of action is to reply in writing, asking all the questions for which answers were omitted from their letter. I spoke to my Insurance broker today and he seems to think its a standard letter sent out to chance their arm, some will be frightened and pay up, he has offered to write to this company to find out what its all about, without getting the actual insurer involved (he's a good bloke.....and we pay an awful lot in insurance )
So other than that, I have no news to relate, as soon as I do however, I shall let y'all know. Rest assured, I won't let this lie.

UPDATE:
I sent a letter on ther 5th of March, inviting this company to elaborate upon their claim, stating that neither my driver or the Motorway Police have any knowledge of said "incident". My letter went on to give this company 14 days to supply me with details and accompanying eveidence, and after waiting 20 days, no reply has been recived.
I now consider this matter to be closed, am I being naive?
