So, the situation is thus:

As some of you are aware I'll be leaving my present employer in the next few weeks.

Now, I had a pay rise a month or so ago and there is back pay owed to the tune of a fair old bit of cash and dating back over a year. I've received an e-mail from my manager stating:

"Back pay should be within 2 months via BACS transfer, so you would have to let us know if you change bank account details."

Which is fine and I could deal with that since I'm not desperate for the cash at this time. I spoke to my manager yesterday and he's now saying that the back pay could be "quite some time". Quite some time in this place will equate to at least six months.

I was prepared to accept a couple of months but I feel that any more than that is really starting to take the piss and I think all accounts owed should be settled when I leave.

Does anyone else think that would be unreasonable and is there anything in employment law regarding back pay in a situation like this?

All relevant advice kindly received.

If any money was owed, I'd expect them to give you a checque for the full amount on your last day of employment.

me too, I had someone leave recently and its in the business interests to tie up loose ends. The last thinh they will want is you turning up on the dorrstep causing havoc and looking for money.

Ensure that this is done before you go.

Just my 2ps worth
