high interest savings accounts

Hi there,

I will be returning to the UK after a year working in Dubai in May. I would like to transfer my savings from my current account into a high interest savings account. Can anyone recommend a good account and also what sort of interest rate am I likely to get.

If you want instant access then ING Direct do about the best one at 4.5% interest with no catches. This is a web based account so you have to wait a few days for the money to be transferred either way to/from your nominated account.

Most internet based accounts offer circa 4.5% such as EGG etc. Out of that batch I believe Inteliigent Finance are usually the most competitive.

For regular bank accounts and investment accounts it depends on how much you are looking to save. Most operate interest dependant on band of cash, £1-£1000, £1001-£10k etc etc.

Thanks for the replies. I'll have around 30K savings. I am looking into how best to invest the money (property being the most obvious option), but until I decide I'll put the money into a savings account.

Any other advice on how to invest the money?

Have you got a mini cash ISA? If not you can stick £3K in now and £3K in two weeks for tax free interest.
