After several years of home working, we are all going to back to an office.

Just went to see some places today, and there is one I particulary like. I've asked if there is a discount if we pay the whole 1st years rent up front and the agent has said there should be. What sort of discount should I be expecting?

How much floor space, whereabouts and how long a lease are you looking at? Normally rent is payable quarterly in advance, but there is no rule of thumb that I have ever come across if a year is paid up front. Will all be a matter of negotiation, so maybe 10%?

hummm..id personally be a bit 'cheeky' and hit them low!

If you're paying, lets say, 9k a year then knock off 2k. Why not?

I did a similar sort of thing and surprised myself at how low you can negotiate, even throwing in extra land lines and higher spec internet connection etc.

Good luck and keep us posted.

well, they've just got back to me, and managed to get all the original figures wrong. the ratable value was only out by a factor of 3.

Agreed terms earlier and sign it off next week. Got them to agree to just under a 15% discount for the first year.

We are now looking for office desks and stuff. sigh.

If you need any planning and or assistance with moving, drop me a line .

Oh, and if you're after something better than your average Ikea/Staples/Viking furniture I could point you in the right direction too. Can even get some decent 2nd hand stuff very cheap occasionally.

Cheers,

Iain

Don't forget to factor in a 15% discount for cash up front.

No problem, providing he signs up to the 48 month support contract.

i'm trying to get excited about desks, and to be honest its not working.

also, the prices seem to be exponential. so a nice second hand desk is £150, the new version is £250 and a new "god i'm an important person" desk costs £1,000.

Tinman, how many desks are you after and roughly how soon will you need them?

4 desks, ideally to be clustered together. proper sized desks that is not those horrid call centre desks.
