Anyone know about this? I just had a letter telling me I now have the princely total of three shares in some outfit called Verigy Ltd.... is this good or bad?

Did you apply to buy some shares in this company?

I've had some shares for about 6-7 years, now held via TD Waterhouse, who sent me the letter. I only have 25 shares as they were $55 each IIRC. The conversion rate is 0.12 Verigy shares for each Agilent share. I get the sinking feeling my investment has gone 'phut'...

You've probably figured that out by now, but Agilent owned a chunk of Verigy (50 Million shares) and they've decided to give them all away to existing Agilent shareholders.

Agilent are fine - shares currently around $35. If you paid $55 then you must have bought during the dot.com boom around 1999/2000.

Sounds good, but as I understand it my Agilent shares are being converted to Verigy; it didn't appear as a free handout. I have (will have) just 3 Verigy shares so they'd better be damn expensive!

It's not very hard to find this info out, it's on Agilent's front page!
But here's the link direct to the announcement:

Edited to add that Verigy shares are around $17, so you've basically been given $50. Selling 3 shares might be an amusing experience, though!
