A domain name I want is already taken, but is simply parked on an ISP's holding page.

I have tried to contact the registrant through a Whois lookup to make them an offer, but no reply.

Does anyone recommend a REPUTABLE agent/broker who can get hold of it for me?

Cheers

You should contact the ISP or the original registrar. Check in whois when it was registered and when it expires, if it's not about to expire you are unlikely to be able to buy it.

I'm not sure of anyone who specialises in this field, SEDO.co.uk seems to be a place to sort the actual sale itself, but finding someone to actually approach, assess and barter isn't something I've heard much on...

I'd advise you make a tentative approach from a nondescript hotmail / Gmail account, with a suitable plausible reason for wanting it, on the cheap... ie you're a uni student, or the domain holds special meaning to you, but you're skint.. see how the negotiations progress..

if he asks too much, tell him so, leave it a week, then make a second approach from an alternate pseudonym and carry on as before...

unless you think you have a valid LEGAL claim to the domain (trademark / copyright / active use of a similar domain) then you've not really much of a leg past making an offer the seller (assuming they even want to sell) wants!

past that, not much I can add..

Anyone previously bought a domain name from dotcrucible.com. I have been given a guote of $2.5k for a dot com they are sitting on. Currently negotiating that figure down using techniques described above. What I dont want to do is agree a figure make a transaction and then discover that they have been spinning a yarn and I am out of pocket.

Any experiance sought

Further question, has anyone had any dealings with FXdomains.com, I am wanting to reqister a .us domain and have not come across a UK company that can do this. FXdomains seemed ver reasonably priced but are there any hidden catches, Will I actually own the domain name?

Cheers
