Hello,

Hope this is not counted as an advert/for sale post...

I have a new project on the go at the moment. In the past we have used a professional graphic design firm to create logos etc... while the results have been oustanding so have the assosiated costs!

I'm looking to see if there are any Graphic Design students on here (pref. in London) who would be interested in doing some work for us in return for a small payment. The idea is we help you with the project from a commerical side for uni/college while we get a logo.

The business is vehicle related and based out of London.

Great stuff

Hi there, my ex business partner has a small company doing mainly automotive 3D work but over the years has done several graphic design projects.

Not a student, but not huge costs either so it may be of interest.

PM me if you want his details.

Me too but preferably in Dorset or Cambridgeshire.

I had this brilliant idea too, but I had trouble finding someone who was sufficiently commercial, practical and skilful to actually get the job done. In the end, I think that a small graphic design operation is probably your best answer.

What you can do if you are determined to try this is look out for the Art School degree shows, which, for your convenience, will be held at the end of the summer term, ie May/June. Look in graphic design, and get talking to one of the students whose work appeals to you. But be warned. Students are into the artistic side of their profession not the practical side of it, however enticing you imagine it will be when you wave a few pink beer vouchers under their noses.

...and there you have it! You get what you pay for!

Would you get an apprentice mechanic to fix your car, a law student to sort your legal stuff, etc...

Most Graphic Design students wouldn't be let anywhere near branding projects until they've been working for at least a year or two.

You'll get a logo that is either innapropriate, looks great but will cost a fortune to reproduce (or cannot be reproduced) or will take forever and a day to produce.

Design is a professional service!

If all you're after is a logo, expect to pay no more than £400 for a few options, a bit of tweaking and supply of various file formats. Plus, if you're venture takes off, no student would be able to cope with the typical range of work that businesses require.

I think most small businesses tend to view their logo as an expensive necessity rather than an opportunity. Most don't recognise the value that a well thought-out brand adds to a business. 'Pretty' or 'cool' is often as far as it gets and raw designers can tick those boxes as well as seasoned pros.

That site takes my comments above to the absolute extreme. Terrifying.

In my early designer days at an agency I found myself on the buying side of such an auction system (Noosh, for all the PH printers out there). It's a dreadful system which destroys the suppliers taking part and makes a mockery of their services. Businesses regularly failed, replaced by others ever more hungry for the crumbs that are left over.

As with anything in life and business, you get what you pay for. A $10 logo costs $10 for a reason.

Not seen Guru before, how does this compare? I am currently looking for a new website to be constructed but am having trouble finding the right people at the moment.
