I have just started doing our Farm accounts. Can anyone tell me if there is a list of what we can and can't claim VAT back for? IE hire cars, etc.. Also is there a list of which items go under which code i.e what is Zero rated, what is outside the scale etc..
Any help is most welcome!

you must have an invoice, which shows the VAT registration number of the supplier, and the item must be for business use!

Well, yes. But, look at the guide to VAT, contained within the VAT public notices, PN 700 IIRC. That should help get you started. Presumably, if you've only recently registered, you should've received some guff from HMRC in the post together with your VAT no.? Read it, and pay attention to what you can and can't reclaim in terms of input VAT prior to registration.

Agriculture and VAT....*shudder*, wouldn't want to get into the specifics I'm afraid. I would suggest you may wish to consult a VAT practitioner to at least review your first few VAT returns prior to submission.
