I am currently working as a consultant in Cairo. I am being paid in US Dollars. Obviously the dollar to pound exchange rate is against me at the moment. Anyone have experience of changing largish sums of dollars into pounds, or where I can get the best exchange rates?

Thanks

I've just been switching some GBP into USD this morning.

The rate is better than at the afore mentioned firms.

Feel free to PM me if you would like an intro.

Dropping 2 big figures either side of spot is about as good as you can get, make sure you get a two way price to compare against spot rate as some firms offer a tight spread but the full range is over or under spot depending on which way you are going. Unregulated business so be careful.

Spot is 20538@41 just now so 20350/750 would be a fair rate for a wiring of physical.

Travelex et all are around 19900/21100. Not good.

I use www.xe.com
you'll have to send some detailed info but the rates are fairly reasonable

Depending on the size of your transaction you should be aiming for a two way price in the area of: 2.0300 / 2.0360 if not tighter. This is for physical settlement, but expect a 10-15 pound charge on one side of the settlement (so if you aren't transferring a lot of money, it makes the price a lot wider).
