Stopping junk mail? Other than MPS...

Does anyone have any Data Protection type knowledge?
Although I'm registered with MPS I'm getting an increasing amount of junk mail, mainly credit card applications which are pre-populated with my name/address etc.
I'm guessing that,although I'm usually very careful, I've missed a "tick box" to opt out of mailings at some point and some bleeding company has flogged my details off.
Is there a way of finding out who is flogging my details? If I ring one of the credit card companies and whinge are they likely to have a record of where my details came from?
We're likely to be moving within 12 months and I don't want to leave a trail of documents like this lurking around as we're in a rental property at the moment.
