hmm?!? Mac issues - probably OS quirk.....
Had watched half of an iPlayer programme (happens to have been Scott's "Hamlet" which is absolutely captivating, btw)
then did the latest OS X update.
iPlayer sort of grinds to a halt....(second half of the three hours programme)
...and as well as the TV, tonight the Radio iPlayer is doing the same!?!
So - our Virgin Media download speed is still 110... Never had a streaming problem in donkey's years.....
Wondering what to test to isolate what this new problem is
Any ideas?

2012 MacBookPro
This machine had a new graphics card put in by Apple under their recall.
It has been working fine until a few days ago when performing a restart because of an MacMail bug, it just went dark.
Now when it is started, it makes all the right noises, but the screen stays completely black.
After 3/4 mins, you can hear it shut down again.
Anybody come across this before?
Thanks.

I had a MBP2011. The video card went and I had it replaced. It lasted about 3 years. Apple are no longer repairing them. I took it to a local place and they did a "reflow" (essentially it sounded as though it involved heating it to get the solder to melt and sorting the failed connections). It failed again within 6 months. They gave me a guarantee so I took it back. However, I have bought a 2018 MBP and consigned the old one to a cupboard and will only fire it up if I need something.
Also worth checking the memory slots. These fail and you get a problem rebooting (grey/black screen, three beeps).

Thanks, interesting. Did Apple's repair go without "notice". Also I uprated the memory and put in a new Samsung ssd a few years ago. I'll get my screwdrivers out! Also worth checking the memory slots. These fail and you get a problem rebooting (grey/black screen, three beeps).

I did both the memory upgrade and the Samsung SSID. I think I'll get that taken out and put in an external drive case.

Right then, some how the Mrs seems to have moved half of her iTunes library to the trash bin - don't know how and didn't bother trying to find out.
It seems that the 'Put Back' option isn't available for any of the files (not helpful!).
Is there an easy way to restore them back to the correct folders other than having to do it individually? If not I'm in for a lciuole of long evenings lol.
Thanks

Are the songs in the Trash still showing in iTunes?
If you select one to play, does it or do you get the ! beside the name, with a pop-up to tell iTunes where it is?
Assuming the latter, then simply grab all the relevant files and drag them to the Music folder in your User account, unless you’ve another drive where they reside. To find out, open iTunes’ Prefs, go to Advanced tab, and see what the Logical path displayed shows.
Once moved back, you don’t necessarily need to play each song, simply select one and press and hold the down arrow key. As it scrolls through the songs list, any songs that it has lost track of will have the ! next to them. Right click or pressing the play button will bring up the option to find the file – navigate to the folder and then the artist, album, and select the song.
If you have a plethora of them, then it might just be easier to drag and drop the album on to the iTunes’ window.
Try it with a few single folders first, see what the score is with each one. You can continue like so or if you’re not getting any !, then grab the rest in one fell swoop.
Hopefully they’’ll be the same.

Just found out the next version of MacOS won't be supported by my 2010 MBP, nothing wrong with the machine at all as I've upgraded it to 8gb ram and SSD.
Thinking of dumping MacOS off it and putting Linux on it, anybody done this before?
My 2010 iMac won't be supported either, not sure what I'll do with it, other than replace it. Although 8 years is still longer than I've had out of all m other computers together!!!Thinking of dumping MacOS off it and putting Linux on it, anybody done this before?
Doesn't mean it will stop working will it?
I Ran an eMac well into the newer OS, 2013 I think. For a machine running on an OS that was ceased in 2002 or so and on PowerPC? Not bad.
Edit. Obviously depends what you need it for and what software.

problem is no updates means no security updates and then eventually software makers stop supporting it as well etc. I Ran an eMac well into the newer OS, 2013 I think. For a machine running on an OS that was ceased in 2002 or so and on PowerPC? Not bad.

I like to keep my operating systems as up to date as possible.

The current Mac OS will continue to get security updates for some time.I like to keep my operating systems as up to date as possible.
Your 2010 Mac will likely have an almost current and updated OS 10 years after it was built.
Think about that for a second.
10 years.
