First world problem but I noticed that my new Aston Martin doesn’t provide enough charge for me to run Waze on my phone. It charges the phone but a little too slowly such that, after 5 hours of driving and a day away from a charger, the battery was at 20%.

I was thinking about putting a battery pack between the cars’s USB and the charge cable so it provides some more oomph. Any battery packs that can sit in line but still pass through the electronic signals both ways so the car play functions still work?
Could you have the Mrs drive behind you in the Tesla?

Is this a USB output on the Aston? I would have thought that was a fixed voltage output - so it's odd it's not providing enough power. Is there a cigar lighter socket somewhere? Might that have enough woof?
Yes, USB output. I suspect it is is like some of those weaker chargers that juice the phone but do it very slooooowly.

If I plug it into the Cigar lighter then the Apple Car Play stuff won't work.

I do have a battery unit that will work in line but they have stopped making it. No idea if anyone else makes one.

Not sure where you'd buy it from... some detective work required I guess.

Another issue. I'm getting error messages from the Time machine "Backup failed as Time Machine is full" or some such. As I understand it, the Time machine should delete old backups automatically. Looking at the web, it looks like you should be able to delete backups individually. However, when I "enter Time Machine" and click on the back up, there is no option to delete.

Any ideas?

Your Desktop will appear as a folder in Finder. Open two Finder windows and move your files from Desktop to wherever you want?
Thanks for your help, and I hadn't considered that option, though I am pretty sure there used to be a keystroke option to tab down through multiple files and folders pilled on top of one another on the desktop - UPDATE, for good housekeeping I've since tidied up the desktop so no longer have 100s of random files and folders clogging up the screen.

On a slightly different topic, have just bought myself a Kingston 480GB SSD to replace the HDD so am just building up the courage to take the iMac apart again.

I also purchased a dual bay external docking station to clone the SATA HDD onto a SSD, I tried it out last night and it appeared to work very well.

Just a quick update, if you remember I changed the iMac HDD back in March for a new one, but was never really happy with it, which is why I went down changing it all again and taking the opportunity to fit a SSD inside.

So, last night I went for it and cloned the original HDD onto a new Kingston 480GB SSD without any problems using the external docking station, and then went about replacing the internal HDD on the iMac which incidentally is a 2009 24" model, I watched one of the excellent tutorials on YouTube to refresh my memory on how to change an internal HDD on an iMac and the 2nd time around it was far easier and a lot less scary.

Took me approx 50 minutes, though am sure I could do it quicker. Main thing is to buy a couple of small suckers from Amazon to pull the screen off which is very easy to do on the early iMacs which are attached in place by magnets, note that the newer ones are glued on so not so straightforward.

Only thing I need to do now is to set up time machine to backup onto a small WD external HDD then the job is a good one. I might reinstall the OS from the partition if it has one, that will be tonight's job once I've backed everything up!

So the moral of the story is.... if you haven't already done it, backup your internal HDD onto an external drive using Time Machine - will take you less than 5 minutes of your life and save an awful lot of grief when the inevitable happens!

Good to hear you managed to replace it, I purchased a 60W Magsafe 1 L-tip Power Adapter late last year for my 13" MacBook Pro because I wanted an additional charger at work as well as home, it's worked flawlessly to date and looks the part.

Hopefully someone can offer some advice before I launch my phone out of the window, and also that this is the right place to ask!

I have an Iphone 6s which I have owned from new with no issues, however over the last 6 months or so, there has been an intermittent issue with the phone in that the screen will freeze and will not respond to touch whilst I am using it. This means that I then have to hit the button on the side and type in my passcode. Sometimes this will 'fix' the issue, sometimes it carries on with the issue.

I have had to resort to hard restarts and even a complete wipe and restore from the cloud, however the issue is still there. I don't know if its a software issue or a problem with the phone, I am loathe to get rid of it as I am on SIM only contract and my old jalopy has only a aux input, therefore I can't go down the new phone with bluetooth resort.

Any advice gratefully received, thanks!

Are you on the latest software? If so, what does the battery health status say?

I popped into my local Apple store and they checked the battery which is fine and I’m on 11.4.1 which is the latest update. Whilst trying to type this out, I have had to close the phone and re-open it twice, it’s driving me mad!

Afternoon all

Hopefully this is the right place for this smile

First up, i'm pretty rubbish with computers. Both mine and OH's laptops are pretty old, hers so much so, that it wont update Itunes anymore.

She's just upgraded from an iphone 6, to an 8, so I logged into her Itunes account, on my Itunes, backed up the phone, and restored to the new one. Seemed to have moved everything accross, except for her music.

So my question is, how can I get her music moved from her pc to her new phone? We are getting her a new laptop before Xmas once we've fully saved up. Assume I'd have to save her Itunes to a memory stick somehow and upload to the new laptop?

Any help would be welcome. Everything else seems to have switched to the new phone.

Cheers

^^^ Just to clarify, is the music ON the hard drive locally or are you talking about it being Apple Music, and you can’t see it now on the iTunes account?

Not sure to be honest. When we open ITunes on her laptop, the music is there, but she can only access it via opening ITunes, so I'm assuming its not on the hard drive. Sorry, i'm rubbish with computers frown

Navigate to the iTunes folder and then to iTunes Media – iTunes Preferences’ Advanced tab should show the location, even on a PC.
Therein should be her content (downloaded and ripped from CDs), which she can select and drag onto the open window of any removable media she has connected – portable hard drive, USB stick, memory card in a USB adapter.

Copy it, then connect it to the new computer, and do the reverse of above.
It’d be easier to just copy the whole iTunes folder, and when asked, replace the one on the new computer with it.

Once you’ve connected her phone to the new computer, you’ll be told it’s associated with another device, and asked if you’d like to change that arrangement.
This happens only when the auto sync option is preferences is enabled or you manually choose the sync option on the iTunes window, when the device is connected.
Doing so will overwrite the data on it, with the same or new data that is on the new computer – so make sure all the music, pdf/books, photos, ringtones, have all been transferred on to it first, otherwise if it’s not there, it’ll be removed from the phone.

Once all that’s done, and you’re happy with the phone having all the stuff she had before on it, then turn on the old computer, launch iTunes, and from the options along the top, choose Account, then Authorisations, and then De-authorise. That’ll remove it from the 5 devices you can share the content on.

A couple of problems after most recent update, Apple Watch3
First my heart rate wasn’t visible on watch faces, although present when viewing faces on the phone watch app
A few restarts fixed it, as others had done via google research
Secondly my watch was on charge. It didn’t ask for my passcode when I put it on & Apple Pay worked... Only happened once

Can the other party in 'messages' delete the conversation? I had dealings with a chap last year and I'm sure we sent messages to each other via 'messages' (both have iphones) and I'm looking for the convo now by searching for his name (I still have his contact details in my contacts) / a couple of key words but nothing is coming up? I wouldn't have deleted the messages so can he?
