Meanwhile, at the other end of the scale, Lidl have 10W Cree LED torches in from Sunday 15th for £12:99. Rating is 600 lumen, case 21cm long. No idea what cells it uses. I have one of their single 18650 3W XPE-R2 120 lumen ones with a USB in/out which I got a year or so ago that has proven very useful and makes my MiniMaglite LED look rather weedy!

still haven't got my fking batteries ordered on 17th sept mad Ill be back to aliexpress next time fk banggood
Dude you need to relax, that's barely 3 weeks. It could take some time yet. I tend to give Banggood and Gearbest 5 weeks; anything that turns up earlier is a bonus. Just remember how much money you're saving. (For the record I ordered some 18650's a few days before you did.)

If you want stuff faster pay the extra for a UK based seller - this guy sells genuine stuff at a still (fairly) reasonable price from the UK:
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/ECOLUXSHOP

No button top 30Q's mind which is what I'm waiting on.

Banggood actually say up to 25 working days on delivery time for such as cells.
Strangely the order they screwed up had a China post tracking number, that was 3 weeks. The replacement has a Swedish post number. confused

This gets a mention on the previous page https://www.lidl.co.uk/en/Non-Food-Offers.htm?arti...

A reflective vest or equivalent would also help, drivers will see the vest long before the torch. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikgic-Visibility-Reflect...

You can have both for just under £15

I can recommend this Nitecore MH20 clone - USB rechargeable, decent bit of flood but with a concentrated hotspot - I use it as my bike light on my road bike. (I'm hitting 40mph on some descents, and I trust it enough to pick out potholes at those speeds.) If I didn't have a bajillion lumens of other lights for exactly the same purpose, I'd get one for 'round the house,' duty. But it'd be ignored with toys like a Convoy L6, BLF Q8 and quite a few others to choose from.

https://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_449755...

You'll need to get an 18650 for it (preferably protected if you're going to leave it on charge unattended) but it's worth it.

Don’t scrimp then, spend a bit more.

Of the 3, I’d possible lean more towards the Convoy or Utorch, with a hefty 26650 battery – but I wouldn’t rule out the Manker entirely, apart from not being in stock at the moment.

Definitely, not worth chancing a dirt cheap cell that comes with it.
I've never heard of the company, the XP-E2 emitter isn't likely to be putting out anywhere near the 900 lumens claimed (Fenix and Nitecore can only get around 200 lumens out of the same emitter - and that's on their older lights.)

My money, I'd avoid it. Not because it'll necessarily be bad but because you can almost certainly get a lot better for the money.

Something else to chuck into the mix, the Convoy S2+. It doesn't have USB recharging but a smart charger can be had for £2 and they're cracking lights. Or the much throwier (but less floody) C8. Both are 18650 lights and they're pretty well indestructable.

That C8 is a lovely light; the S2's are workhorses but the C8 in that ano finish looks good and chucks out a lovely throwy beam for seeing well ahead.

ETA:
If you do look at something without USB charging, grab one of these:

https://www.gearbest.com/chargers/pp_424662.html?l...
I've got discount codes that'll bring the price down a bit, chuck me a PM if you want them.

Is that a torch, or a hand burner? biggrin

At work, we installed some 32k lumen street lights a while ago, that suck up 250 watts of juice when running flat out eek

I really do wonder how long the batteries in that torch would last, if those lumen figures are even vaguely correct...

Cree reckon those XHP70 LEDs are 32 watts, so 8 of them is about 250W. I'm guessing the batteries don't last long?

Does light output scale? ie if you put 2 x 1000 lumen LED's together do you end up with 2000 lumens?

I'm currently in the process of building some driving lights which contain 3x cree xhp70.2's and the heat it generates is immense, I'm overdriving them at 6amps but even so I can't see how that torch with eight of them is going last more than a minute on full power before entering thermal protect mode.

Thanks

think I'm going to get a C8. but not sure on the chrome one. but confused about the difference of them all some are

New Convoy C8 Cree XML2 U2-1A LED
Clear Convoy C8 with XPL HI LED,

I assume having a quick look online the XPL is the better led and that 6500-7000K tint is the one to go for ?

Hi folks, I have a Led Lenser P7.2 and was wondering if I can modify/upgrade it and increase its performance? I currently run it on normal Duracell batteries.
Any tips or advice greatly appreciated

Thanks tenohfive and everyone else for the help.

I have ordred a Convoy C8 with Cree XPL. also ordered the smart changer.

Now I need to sort out a battery or two. I know there are tons of fakes out there.

So is it worth ordering some from gear best and so on. or a Uk seller and go for branded ?

Up to now I've been using ThruNite branded batteries. Having received the latest NCR18650B cells from BangGood it seems that beneath the ThruNite brand sleeve one can find exactly the same cells.

Obviously I'm aware of copies and look alike counterfeits but both sets seem to be working fine, just an observation.

If not said already, make sure cells are protected.

You’ll get batteries quicker if you buy from the ebay seller someone mentioned a page or two ago, and can be sure they’re not exaggerated capacity junk.
