Of course you do...go on you know you do really.
Yeah I would have said that. You get a simple led torch range around 200 meters

Use it constantly but I need to scan for dogs and the other side of the field is 400 meters so you buy a 400 meter range .....
[Vb]I've just ordered a 1400 meter one[/b] but also seems new leds are out and EDC torches now tiny beat all my previous huge one so obviously they need replaceing.

It's a sickness
Waiting for test results...

I mean the dog really wants and needs to spot those rabbits at the other end of the common.

Ok I confess.

Looks interesting, although the comments about the MF-02 numbers not adding up are a little concerning.

I'm quite interested to see how the GigaThrower turns out mind.

Yes didn't read all of the thread but it seems 1200-1300 more likely than the advertised 1500.

More than enough for me.

Olight pics, really chuffed with this, don't need to mess with it just clip on pocket and leave it.
Gives about 10m by 25 meters really useful spill for walking. No idea how they test range olight claim 180meters can't see it being actually useful beyond 50m. Turbo is a crowd pleaser but not needed by me I carry a thrower in my pocket for occasional use and leave the olight alone.

I need a new torch for general night-time dog walking now that it's dark by 1700. The walk includes a mix of fields and street. I want to be able to charge it internally so that I don't have to mess around taking out batteries etc. I have narrowed it down to these 2 choices. What do you think? Any other alternatives?

Nitecore R25
https://www.torchdirect.co.uk/500-to-999-lumens/ni...

Fenix RC20
https://www.torchdirect.co.uk/500-to-999-lumens/fe...

Thanks

Both Fenix and Nitecore do good lights, although you'll pay a lot of money for the ones mentioned there. Your needs are fairly generic (mix of flood and throw by the sounds) and more lights do internal charging so there are plenty of options. If you've got a preference i.e. you just need to see roughly where you're going, and will sacrifice a bit of flood for being able to pick things out 600m away then say as much and I'll see about something a bit more situation specific. These should be fairly balanced lights.

My slant is going to be towards the cheaper options because frankly those are the ones I've looked at; when I go expensive, it's for something fairly specific. Olight are definitely worth a look if you're happy paying higher end. But I'll chuck a token light in that's in the same price range as those two above. And apologies in advance, the GB links are aff links - not mine, I'm just too lazy to go the long way to the products:

Imalent DT35. 8500 lumens (claimed, a review mentioned 5000 measured) from 4 x XHP35 emitters. It'll out throw and out flood both the above and has microUSB charging and a digital display. There's a decent review on Taschenlampen
https://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_616006...

Convoy BD06 - proprietary charger rather than microUSB, £23 but there's a code that'll bring it below £20:
https://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_612478...

Nitenumen NE01 - I often recommend this as I own it and really like it. It's a Nitecore MH20GT clone. I keep meaning to buy a second as I think it nails the mix of flood and throw.
https://www.banggood.com/NITENUMEN-NE01-XM-L2-LED-...

Unrelated and for everyone else, if you can live with a cool white (6000K tint) the Convoy L6 is on a deal - I've seen it for £35 with a code. There is much love for the L6 in this thread so if you're tempted, now is probably the time.

Thanks for that.

The convoy looks a good bet. The first one you posted is way too chunky for my liking! But I’m a bit spectical of “buy cheap buy twice” hence why I’d rather stick to the well-known brands.

I’m probably swinging in the opposite direction to you but does anyone have any experience with Coast? I’ve just stumbled across this one, 725lumens (that sounds like the sweet spot for brightness to me for general dog walking etc?):
I’m liking that stainless steel...
https://www.torchdirect.co.uk/rechargeable-torches...

I must add, I want something rechargeable from a mains plug which I can leave plugged in/cradled in my kitchen.

Convoy are not in the 'buy cheap, buy twice,' category - and amongst torch geeks Convoy are every bit as well known as Fenix/Nitecore/Olight etc. I'm biaised - I own about 8 Convoy lights and all have continued to work flawlessly despite the abuse I've given them. So don't write them off, most people who know a thing or two about torches rate Convoy very highly. Don't be confused by the low price.

Any light with onboard charging can be charged from the mains; a mains to USB plug is about £3.
And there are more and more lights out there that are doing what you're asking for - your budget is about 4 times what it needs to be to get 900+ lumens and a rechargeable light. UK torch retailers overprice things significantly compared to overseas sellers mind.

I've not heard anything bad about Coast but nor have I heard anything especially good. They seem a bit overpriced for what they are to me, and it says something about that light above that Coast don't publish the emitter details even on their own website. Normally you can get a flavour of what sort of light it is from the emitter, and I wouldn't buy a light without at the very least knowing which LED is in it.

If you're determined to spend £100 on a handheld, rechargeable light have a look at Olight. Something like the R50 Seeker will do what you ask of it, and a lot more besides.

Side note: The Imalent DT35 looks to be a typical soda-can light in terms of format. I've got something similarly sized, the BLF Q8 and whilst the shape looks chunky it's no more difficult to hold than a can of coke (hence the name for that style of light.) Others in this thread have the Q8 too and have remarked on how it's fine to hold, so I wouldn't let that aspect alone put you off.

Have you got the details on this? I've only been able to find it on BG for about £45 with a discount code

I've got both of the below, either work fine (although the latter are a fair chunk cheaper.)

Thanks - I'll have to go for the first one, as gearbest have a ' wont ship to the UK' on the second, which is odd as they've shipped batteries before...

That's annoying - and yes, GB have shipped batteries to me too - including those ones.

I got the same message.

I was feeling the itch for another new torch. I am a massive fan of the C8 so I have taken the opportunity to pick up an L6 using that code. Batteries as above too. For the for time I went for quicker delivery so hopefully it will still be dark in the woods when they arrive.

Batteries for my BLF Q8 turned up earlier in the week. Beast of a torch; the ramping, memory and easy access to turbo is perfect for evening dog walking.

Hmm so I was just checking bang good seeing if any update on the astrolux MF02 thrower and noticed that they have refunded me and the price has gone up.

Well still sort of want one so joined budget light forum for a code to see how much that brings it down.

Then found the BLF GT

Hmmmmm I have no use for it, it's too big to carry.

Talk me out of it.
