You bought a DN70 too?
Has an excellent beam pattern for a flood, and the OLED display is novel, but by Christ those buttons are a pain in the arse to find in darkness!
I see on BG, there's a new version now, with a tail that takes the provided lanyard.
As much as I like it, I think I'll be selling mine and grabbing either the Olight R50 Pro or new Klarus G20L.

I've ordered at least a dozen times from Gearbest and never had any import charges. I know it's a risk, but it's usually well and truly offset by the price difference. Did you pay extra for delivery? I never do and I'm wondering if some couriers differ.
I never usually pay extra for delivery but did this time for quick delivery because.......well.......torch!

I'm not really sure what I paid £17 for. I thought at first it was customs but there was no paperwork.

I will be dropping an email to all concerned but I have been too busy illuminating Chingford with my new torch.

Yes.
Lanyard now,Typical frown

Apart from the olight that is used daily clipped to pocket I think this will be my most used torch.
Small enough to not mind having in my pocket all the time.

I have a klarus somewhere but the user interface makes me want to kill every time I pick it up.

Battery Question: I have a Romisen thingummy which takes two AA batteries.

A couple of years ago I splashed out on some Eneloops - blue writing on white batteries, with a Sanyo charger. They look very like this;

(But the charger is a little different).

They are only ever used in pairs in the torch, are always used until the torch stops working as it should (the switching between modes goes awry when the batteries get a bit flat) and are only ever charged in the supplied charger when flat, for the required 16hours until the green LED on the charger goes out. However the life of the batteries seems to have dropped of late. I can't give figures for it as I don't measure such things but they definitely don't last as long between charges as they used to.

My question is what sort of life would you expect out of Eneloops? 10 charge cycles? 100? 1000? I don't think mine are much beyond 20 yet.

OK, further to my post about the Eneloops not lasting as long as I'd like, the torch has packed up. It's an old Romisen RC-N3, which has spent the last 7 years being dropped, driven over and generally not cared for. It now refuses to flash, although will turn on to what feels like full power. It's therefore not useless but the flashy-mode was useful as a bike light.

I need a replacement.

Requirements: small, has to have flashy mode, has to be waterproof, as to work with the clip I use to hold it on the bike handlebars.

Happy to have something that runs on AA's, also happy to take a step into the world of fancy batteries if someone can point me to ones that are safe and won't explode.

Budget? All in, around £20.

I note tenohfive's recommendation of the ConvoyBD06, but this is slightly more expensive and the offer is no longer on. And I think it may be a big chunky to fit in the bike handlebar clip.

I also note his recommendation of the S2+, which seems to be on special offer on the link he supplied. Would this fit the bill? Can I do better?

Thanks!

If you don’t mind buying some 18650’s and a charger then I would take a look at this Thirfire which is within budget (without the battery): https://www.amazon.co.uk/ThorFire-Flashlight-Batte...

I’ve got the VG15 and VG15S they are fantastic, extremely bright, waterproof an tiny, plus cheap. Good feel and quality, I don’t think you can go wrong!,

Thanks - that's helpful.

Can you recommend some 18650's and a charger?

Can someone recommend something similar to the above but with an integrated battery and charger. So I can just plug it into one of my existing many thousands of usb leads cluttering up the kitchen.

I want something for walking the dog at night that makes me visible from the moon ideally.

£50....or less if possible.

I've dipped in here briefly before, but never really needed to ask for advice.

Until now.

Not in the same league as most of the gear on here, but I've had one of these for quite a while:

It's done good service as a power cut/rcd reset torch, along with stints as firework night light and various other unplanned night time job illumination.

But tonight it appears to have died. Possibly the rechargeable cells, which could probably be replaced, but taking the opportunity to get a purchase request passed by the domestic finance controller, I fancy something a bit better.

From what I've seen here I could do with a smart charging torch, so it can remain plugged in and ready for action at the drop of a hat.

No need to be key chain/pocket small, quite happy with another chunky effort.

More power than will ever be necessary would be best, I feel.

Not too much more than the previous incumbent cost, which I think came in at about £20. Budget can be stretched for the suitable candidate.

What do the illuminati reckon I should be looking at?

Didn't get an answer to my post yet so took a punt on one of these.

Discoball® 1800 Lumens LED Tactical Torch Portable Rechargeable Zoomable Waterproof Flashlight with 1 Free 18650 Battery + Car and AC 2 Chargers Included for Patrolling Climbing Hunting Camping Hiking and Other Outdoor Activities Illumination https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00PU0DVG0/ref=cm_sw_r...

Won't arrive until Tuesday but I wanted something that would charge up by plugging in the torch itself and was really bright. We shall see.

Thanks tenohfive. I’ve ordered and received the Convoy BD06 and the charger you recommended. I’ve just ordered a Keep Power 26650 battery (I’m awaiting an 18650 already), hopefully it’ll arrive soon so I can try my BD06 out on a dark countryside dog walk instead of my old Aleto T6 that was an old recommendation on here!

tenohfive said:
I wouldn't touch any of those three with a barge pole - even if the lights are alright, the batteries look like utter c**p and likewise the chargers. You don't want to mess around with cheap 'xxxxxFire' cells nor the chargers which as a rule are dumb chargers (i.e. they'll keep charging your dirt cheap cells even when full...overcharging can lead to explosions.)

If you've got £15 go for the Convoy BD06 I mentioned earlier, it'll do it all. Or a Convoy S2+ which will be smaller, lighter and cheaper. Neither are zoomies but I honestly don't think you'll miss that.

If you're intent on a zoomie at that price go for an SK98 and the charger and battery I've linked below. It's a reputable smart charger that won't overcharge, and a reliable cell.)

Convoy BD06 - £14 with code BlackFriday19
Convoy S2+
Charger - use code BlackFriday51

I must admit to being quite underwhelmed with the Convoy BD06. I’ve popped a freshly charged battery into it and it’s no better than a freebie that I had from Michelin! The battery is definitely fine as I’ve popped it into my old Aleto Cree T6 cheapie and it’s bright enough to grow plants growing 24/7 in my garden!!

Am I doing something wrong with the Convoy? Have I bought the wrong one?

Apologies for the poor photos.

ETA: The different modes weren’t cycling through, they are now, which has made a huge difference. Still not unite as good as my old torch though, I must have really lucked out with that one!

I’ve brought quite a few of these and they have been excellent, I’ve used them for the past 2-3 years and they are still great although not the cheapest.
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2...

For s charger I’ve used both of these Xtar ones ( I didn’t fancy a cheap unbranded Chinese one, like the batteries really...)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Xtar-MC1-Li-ion-Battery-C...

Or

https://www.amazon.co.uk/XTAR-Charger-Screen-Displ...

An alt ranting Thorfire torch, does the job, slightly different switches and I’ve just got one, agian very impressed:

Choices choices lol. But you won’t go wrong with any of them.

Ever since I read this post and the others that followed I've wanted a H2R. Yesterday a lightning deal for 44 quid happened so I bought it!

Pesty you're now on the list of PH members who've cost me money, a lot less than all the Hue bulbs I bought but still......

I'll report back once it's arrived.
