I got one of these from Screwfix the other day... extremely happy with it.

I just caught it with a few minutes to go, it's been on offer a few times at a similar price.

I have to say I'm not disappointed, amazing little torch. The turbo mode is probably unnecessary but impressive non the less.

I can see at least one more olight being on the cards, this and something like an s20r or similar could be all the torches I'll ever need.

Can anyone recommend a budget rechargeable flood light for working on cars etc outside?

I bought one from Amazon, fking thing has less light output than my fenix e15, worse battery life too.

Do a search for:

Gerlux COB LED Flexi Brilliant Lamp Rechargeable Hands Free 3W Up to 300 Lumens

I have one - very good, very bright, great for getting into tight spaces. Battery life is pretty good. Only downside is that they aren’t particularly tough, so not really robust enough for a pro workshop

Ever since I read this post and the others that followed I've wanted a H2R. Yesterday a lightning deal for 44 quid happened so I bought it!

Pesty you're now on the list of PH members who've cost me money, a lot less than all the Hue bulbs I bought but still......

I'll report back once it's arrived.

I should get a commission from olight.

Still very happy with mine I use it daily and it’s just perfect for my use.

Cold white: fractionally more lumens (not enough to be visible) and looks brighter.
Neutral white: better for picking out colour and detail.

I'm a NW convert. CW looks visually brighter, but in practice to me it seems almost glare-like brightness rather than functional brightness. For outside use NW is better with browns, so if you're in the woods/countryside it's easier to pick out detail.

That being said I don't think it's a major issue, and I've gone with CW options where the NW equivalent has been a few quid more and not felt bad about it.

But comparing side by side (like I've been able to with some of the S2+'s I've got) NW is definitely my preference.

After what feels like a crazy amount of research I think I’m going to go for this:

Olight® 600 Lumens S10R Baton III(S10R III) Rechargeable LED Torch EDC USB Charge Flashlight with LUMINUS SST-40 CW LED and Customized 650mAh RCR123A Battery for Outdoors/Household(New Arrival) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N5603MQ/ref=cm_sw_r...

Any thoughts or alternatives I should consider before going for it?

Depends on what use you're planning for it.

£50 for 600 lumen - I'd do some more research !

Really it does depend what you want but Aliexpress / Gearbest have better torches for less than half that.

Are CR123A cells as little as 650mAh? I know they are quite dinky, but compared to boggo 2400mAh 18650 that seems rather low. That only works out at 2.4Wh, which if your LED is 10W is 15 mins at best, and under high draws the effective capacity of a cell drops dramatically, so more like 5 mins.

Don't get sucked into lumen count. I've got 3800 lumen lights that are less suitable than 900 lumen lights for different applications - as V8mate says, it's a bit more horses for courses than that. And you'd struggle to tell 600 lumens from 900 lumens (rough guide, double the output for a visually appreciable increase.)

For an everyday, general purpose light the various Olight baton lights are pretty good - but cheaper through BG/GB etc if you can wait. And depending on what you want out of it, there are cheaper lights that may be equally suitable.

Sounds about right, pretty sure 18350's and 16340's tend to be in the 650-800mah range.

That's what struck me too. Of course folks starting out are tempted to go down the path of torches including battery and charging system, but that bit of investment at the outset for decent 18650 and charger opens up lots of possibilities.

I have the olight s10 and s15

The s15 was a lot more pleasurable to use being longer. Easier to hold but not much bigger to make a difference in the pocket really.

The charger station was a good idea

This, right here, is true dedication. It takes a proper kind of torch geek to be posting recommendations for torches within seconds and minutes of seeing in the New Year.

Or not seeing it in, if one's torch has malfunctioned...
