The Olight S2R is on an Amazon lightning deal today (I've got prime and it says 30mins early access for prime, so you might want to leave it 20 minutes)

The lightning deal is about £9 knocked of the price however a 25% off voucher for Olight torches is also in effect.

I only went part way through checkout to confirm the price but then "accidentally" caught the buy button. Do I really need 3 different Olight torches?
I gave it a go... I really did!

I put it in my basket, went to the checkout... but just couldn't bring myself to spend £36 on a torch. A torch.

you must be strong. Those who backside are always forgiven and welcomed back to brightly lit fold.

I plunged through checkout with barely a glance and now have a little brown box bundle of joy arriving tomorrow.

My new Olight S2R just turned up.

I appear to have an Olight collection now.

This charger gets a Prime Day promo price at 1.40 this afternoon.

How does the PH Torcherati rate it?

Any of the 3 Olight torches in my picture just above your post would fit the bill IMO.

There's an H2R which is the one with the 90° head, it is also a headtorch with an included mount and headstrap, although I like the angled head for hand held use as well.

There's the S1R which is the tiny little one and finally the S2R which is the larger torch with a straight head.

The S2R has a 25% off voucher available on this Amazon link which brings it in below budget.

All 3 of them use the same charging arrangement which is a really easy to use magnetic attachment, you can see it attached in the photo below.

Olight is always a good shout. Pricier than some but tend to be just a bit more refined too (if your torch needs such a thing as refinement.)

I’m curious..

Bought a little ‘jet 1 mk pro’ off ebay, so cheap and rediculously bright for such a tiny thing.

Of course this means ive been bitten by the torch thing, how bright can i go for <£50?

Im completely in the dark on such matters paperbag and seeing as the thread started in 2011 im guessing laws might have changed things a bit so maybe some of the original stuff no longer exists so any pointers would be good biggrin

TIA

A new member and enthusiast is always welcome to the fold. The answer is that you can go very bright indeed for under £50. I'm a big fan of Convoy torches. I've just spent a week on a boat in France and my C6 was like a searchlight in the dark. My recent Olight, as detailed above has been the go to torch on holiday though. Above your budget unless you find a discount deal but real quality stuff.

Having said that, the majority of my torches have been from Banggood.com. It's batteries and chargers where the real geeky stuff starts to take hold.

C8 or L6 silverthorn (unless there's a C6 out I've not heard about?)

Both are great torches, they're silly good VFM.

But for an all round £50 light that'll do everything - BLF Q8. It's a close run thing between the L6 and the Q8 for my favourite light, but there's something about the UI, ergonomics and just sheer light output of the Q8 that keeps me reaching for it whenever there's the slightest excuse to.

Bugger. I get it wrong all the time. It's the single 18650 one. I'm now looking up the Q8.

Does anyone have any experience of the 'Amazon Basics' rechargeable AA and AAA batteries?

And the 'High Capacity' version of same.

I don't have any experience of the Amazon cells, but 2000mAh seems a bit on the low side these days. In comparison, Lidl's "Tronic Eco" AA cells are currently 2500mAh (last lot were 2300mAh). I haven't tested their capacity but they seem pretty beefy. From memory I think they are £2:99 for 4 - if they still have any in!

I don't need any more AA cells really (this seems a familiar phrase!) but just a quick update to say I got a pack of the Lidl 2500mAh NiMH AA cells for 30% off (£2:10 for 4). Now to find something to use them in...

I’m New to the thread but now that it’s getting towards autumn I'm on the lookout for a good dog walking torch that must be capable of locating squadrons of incoming German Stukas 50 miles out as well as illuminating piles of Great Dane poo on the footpath.

Max budget is about £80 and it needs to be rechargeable and more powerful than my current Lenser P7. Anything new to the market that hasn’t been mentioned it?
