Another little package from China arrived today.

These "proper" torches do feel very well made when compared to the generic Ebay specials I've had in the past.
Mine arrived this morning also. Speedy service took less than 2 weeks.
Now just wait a couple of hours to test it out.

I'd forgotten I ordered it, but I think it was on a Banggood offer at the time. I have some 18650s charged up at home so will have a play later.

Ah but you (almost certainly) could afford a £600 torch

The question is where it lies in your priorities.

By better I meant more usable light.

I have a £2 keyring torch, £2 head torch (for working at close range) and a £5 head torch for running / working at longer range tasks

I don't feel the need for any more, I could afford a £600 torch but I wouldn't consider buying one even if I had 10x the wealth, it's simply not necessary

I'm not a torch-o-holic at all but had to have that when it came out and for something so relatively small it is absolutely brilliant. I don't have many torches but that is the one I use all the time now. You will not be disappointed.

Different ways of viewing money then - personally, if £600 wasn't a huge chunk of my disposable income I'd certainly give it some thought. There is a point where you have to spend a lot more to get a little more. But with everything else you can spend your money on there are those happy to pay for marginal gains. Just because you wouldn't it doesn't mean someone else shouldn't.

Very highly-regarded, that torch! One is almost not a proper torchaholic without a BLF in their arsenal. I'm still researching this whole BLF lark.

I'd forgotten as well, for £15 it is a bargain. Nice quality very floody and decent throw.
My Olight baton is very similar but was over twice the price.
The UI is however a pain in the arse.

Clear as mud and stupidly complicated, it's a 15 quid torch ffs.
Never mind I like the torch starting in moon then a long half press to turbo. They're the only modes I'll use anyway.
Edit. Found this, got it now.

Just looked it up.

It's SIX. HUNDRED. fkING. POUNDS.

You have to have utterly and entirely taken leave of your senses to pay that for a torch.
It's not a torch
Yes it is actually.

What 'use' is it? Well for me I will happily get lost in a forest at dusk as a thing to do - nightfall & total darkness adds quite the atmosphere, too. Having a torch which will either last all night if needed, or 'light up into day' - is the perfect tool for this kind of escapade. I've even met ghost-hunters (here are the required number of inverted commas: ' ' ' ') who fully appreciate the device & its superlative capabilities.

Sure, there are lights out there with more power/output - but I'm more interested in this segment, where you're paying for the pinnacle of technology & fabulous execution & attention to practical details. Below this, you get the same (or greater) specs - but not the same quality of execution/finesse - above it (price-wise) I think you're paying for a name or something decidedly intangible (e.g. 'custom' lights).

Really sorry but you sound mental. I like a nice torch but 'fabulous execution', 'finesse' and being impressed that ghost-hunters like it....well.

Such a versatile clip. So..clippy in its execution and such finesse in the way it clips to thing. Really clever.

£600 for a torch is an awful lot, but I got a bike light which retails at £225 which has around 1800 lumens (made by a company called Exposure) and, frankly, something with 25k lumens sounds utterly hilarious if I'm honest! I've ridden on roads at 40mph with no street lighting and haven't thought 1800 lumens wasn't enough....so just walking with 25k does seem a bit overkill hehe

Madness....but brilliant at the same time!

Beauty of a head torch on sale tonight between 19:00 - 21:00. I’ve got 2 of the zebra light equivalent and love it. Incredibly light on the head. If I didn’t have these already I’d buy one. Only downside is battery life. They don’t last long on turbo mode. I can’t comment on exact times but on medium setting i get most of the night in work out of it. I’d recommend a spare battery though.

If anyone's interested Olight are having a flash sale of the H1R for 41 quid, starts in a few hours.

https://www.olightstore.uk/?tracking=5bc55eaf10d00

I'm a big fan of Olight torches, I already have the S1 and S2 which are the straight naton versions in CR123 and 18650 sizes respectively and I also have the H2R which is the larger 18660 with an angled head and head torch strap, the H1 is the CR123 head torch variety.

Surprisingly the H2R is my favourite torch I own, I rarely use it as a head torch but I've come to appreciate the angled head style as I find it more comfortable to hold and use

They come with a supplied battery and a rather clever magnetic USB charging cable so completely self contained and are incredibly convenient to use. For the quality I think £41 is actually a bit of a bargain.

Well I did buy one of these, and it’s good to find out they are really well made. I had mine resting on the top plate of a workshop I’m building, see pic for height, and it rolled and fell straight onto the concrete! About 2.4m!

You know they supposedly do those drop tests, well maybe they do. A bit of a mark on the corner but it works fine.

If you need a spare battery to be safe it's probably worth looking for an 18650 equivalent - either by Olight or any of the others. There's plenty out there but I really like the Skilhunt ones with TIR for floody headtorches. They've got a really well designed UI that offers 6 odd modes, but which you only have to cycle through 3 at a time (double tap to select the variant of each Low-Med-High, single tap to cycle through the 3 that you've chosen.)
