The 18650 ones on Ebay

They are excellent, I've had mine at least 2 years.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12000LM-T6-LED-Zoom-Hea...

IIRC they are available for £2.50 if you search

I'm tempted by the tm06s even though of course I don't need one.
Well I did buy one of these, and it’s good to find out they are really well made. I had mine resting on the top plate of a workshop I’m building, see pic for height, and it rolled and fell straight onto the concrete! About 2.4m!

You know they supposedly do those drop tests, well maybe they do. A bit of a mark on the corner but it works fine.
How's the concrete?!?

need a little help please - with rechargeable batteries. i bought some eneloops about 2.5 yrs ago. and an ansmann powerline 4 pro charger. all seemed fine until a few weeks ago - and we re-charge them about every couple of weeks. a few weeks ago one seemed dead. wouldn't register anything on the charger and wouldn't charge. now they're all like that. i've been doing a bit of reading and it seems that recharging 4 at a time in this chanrger (and others, but not all) gives a lower mAh rate than is needed to 'turn off' the charger at the end, resulting in trickle charging which can damage the batteries.

my query is - have i knackered the batteries with this charger? i'm a bit loathe to change this (unless essential) as it was £35. would it help to charge only 2 batteries at a time? or have the batteries just reached the end of their life? they were bought off amazon, but i do think they were genuine.

many thanks

No recommendations for an indoor USB light; whilst I'm seeing more lights with a microUSB charging circuit most of my lights don't have one. Without it I'd say an XML2 Convoy S2+ with a magnetic tailcap ring (you can get them from the Convoy AliExpress store.)

A little comparison test story:
I took my eldest out for a wander across the fields/through woods looking for wildlife the other night. Took the Convoy L6, BLF Q8 and Manker T01 - my three favourite lights. In the case of the first two - both 4000-ish lumen lights costing about £40 each - it was the first time I've really done a proper comparison. The T01 is my pocket rocket - silly kcd from a single 14500 battery, but it doesn't really feature here as both the others made it pale into insignificance.

Both seemed to have their place and both put big smiles on my face whilst wandering around trying to find foxes and muntjac.
The Q8 is created a wall of light from just past my feet out to about 250-300m, with deer easily visible at about 300m. It's a beast. It comfortably lit up whole farmers fields and into the woods beyond in places. And for picking out the path the ramping Narsil driver (hold power to ramp up, then again to ramp down - or double press for 100%) was perfect.

The L6 whilst not a dedicated thrower is a bit of a mid-long range king. It seemed like 100-300m is where most of the light seemed to go, lighting up a big area but without being as floody as the Q8 - and with a throwier hotspot. After an hours walking around with it I was still always surprised by the turbo mode - high was just so impressive that turbo just seemed gratuitous and a pleasant surprise to find I had an extra step above what I actually needed each time.

I was carrying both lights for an hour or so; despite the weight, neither got tiring. The L6 in particular spent a lot of time on turbo but no signs of the battery running down. Whilst both comfortably did what I wanted them to do, the L6 is probably slightly more balanced and suited to dog walking/exploring - albeit there was some real convenience in being able to light up distant treelines with the Q8 and still see where I was putting my feet with the Q8. I think I'd have been happy with the throw of the Q8 alone had I not had that extra 25-30% range the L6 offered in throw though.

I've said it before, they're two lights that anyone who likes their lights should own.

Can anyone recommend a decent torch for me? Delivery driver and trying to find address is a right pain.

Budget of £25 as I'll most likely leave it in thr van and someone else will steal it!

BLF A6 - scroll up a few posts to see some comments. Mine lives by the back door now for dog egg detection and collecting duties - it can light up the whole garden with ease.

The BLF A6 really is the MX5 cliche answer to everything torch related and rightly so. When I got mine I thought what other torch could I ever possibly need, the only thing I could come up with was another A6 in a different tint.biggrin

Just in case anybody is using AA or AAA batteries in their torches (or anything else), Waitrose are clearing their shelves of an Eneloop charger complete with four AA batteries for £6, previously £15.99.

The charger will also accommodate AAA batteries.

BLF A6 v Convoy S2+
BLF Q8 v Convoy L6

Which are floodier?
I have A Convoy S2+, but am ready for the next step up ~ 40-50 pounds or so.
Do Headtorches tend to have floodier beams?

Bit late to the 34 page party; got a blf q8 a while back. I’m into 18650 recycling - so have my own charger/discharger rigs.
I wanted to get the recommended Genuine Samsung 30Q 3000ma high drain batteries. I ordered a set from ebay for £12 for 4. They arrived in the plastic box and appeared legit to me. After charging and testing them (twice) they were only coming out at around 1800Ma.

Sort of doubting my rig (as I’ve only ever tested 2nd hand 18650’s and never had more than 2100ma) i bought another set of 30Q’s from Amazon which cost £27 for 4
I put them on the rig and they all came out around 2950Ma .
These new Samsung batteries looked a slightly different shade of pink and slightly different cap shape. I sent the ebay ones back and got a refund - i notice that the seller in question is no longer a seller on ebay (vapetosave) but there are lots of similar listings for the same thing:
“100% GENUINE Samsung 18650 Lithium 30Q 3000mAh 15A Li-ion Battery Vape”

It would appear to be bit of a minefield to buy actually genuine Samsung batteries or at least ones with the stated capacity. So I would recommend a charger which has a capacity test function in order to test what you have been sold. I also tend to trust Amazon over ebay when looking for genuine stuff with easy returns.

A6 and S2 are both equally floody. The S2+ has a slighter smoother beam pattern, but less output (900 lumens vs 1400 stock) and definitely less reach than the A6 - the hotspot is just less intense.
For close work I actually prefer the beam profile of the S2+. But the A6 is still a good short-mid ranger.

Q8 is floodier than the L6 (see my post above for a rather long winded comparison.)

Head torches vary just like hand torches. Anything with a TIR lens will be floody (the bobbled-plastic looking things.) I'd say there are more floody than throwy head torches but it depends.

Can you guys recommend a decent head torch to use for running? I have a lot of lights by a company called Exposure (mainly cycling lights!) and they do a 1000 lumen headtorch, but wondered if there were other alternatives for a bit less money. Exposure are expensive, but the quality is definitely a notch above the others in my experience (of bike lights, not head torches!)

Cheers

As always, what's your budget?

I have an Olight H2R and it's excellent, the smaller H1/H1R might be more suitable for running though and will most likely put out more than enough light. Neat way of recharging, too.
