That's the colour temperature, the 6000-6500k one will have a bit of a blue tinge to it compared to the 5000k

It's the colour temperature of the light emitted.

5000k - yellower, "warmer"
6-6500k - bluer, "colder"

Lots of people prefer the warm types, but I'm the odd one out wink

Colder appears brighter but I can't see colours very clearly under a cold light which makes it harder to identify things

It doesn't just appear brighter, there's often an actual measured difference. About 50-70 lumens at 1000-ish lumen point.
But that fractional increase in lumens is imperceptible at that point, and I agree that the right colour temp is more useful for picking out detail which comfortably offsets any lumen difference.

I do like neutral white's and 5000K is pretty close. In this context - it's the L6 I went for. Cracking light.

If anyone wants to experiment with properly neutral lights, pick up a BLF-348. It's dirt cheap, small enough to hold in your teeth when using around the house but most importantly it's got a high-CRI emitter - a Nichia 219B I believe. Have a play and see what you think - it's a cheap experiment.

Hi all, I’m looking for a torch for work purposes I’m currently looking at the Nitesearcher magnum 3500 https://shop.nightsearcher.com/product/NSMAGNUM350...

Is this any good?

My company has an account with a conpany who deals in Nitesearcher so it will be easier to get this unless something is substantially cheaper or better.

Any thoughts appreciated, usage wise im wanting to light up something approx 20m away as a spot but also to illuminate basements etc.

If you’re only using it for the situation described, then a 2000 lumens floodlight would make more sense.
3500 lumens to light up something only 20m away is completely overkill.

It probably is overkill, but i want something i can carry with me so a torch rather than floodlight seems best as i ften find myself walking a mile in a field before use.

Plus yeah there is an element of while not wasting money it aint my money so i want something impressive!

Still think something like the Rofis MR50/Olight R50 would suffice, but if you want the extra lumens, then the MR70 is a good candidate at half the price of the one you’re currently contemplating – irrespective of who’s footing the bill.

Unless you’re doing S&R stuff, a truncheon-length thrower is probably more cumbersome than it’s worth, IMO.

Do Olight, or some other good company, do a powerful (eg 1500 lumens) like suitable for a bike light? Company I traditionally use make this

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/exposure-strada-mk9-road-s...

Which is quite pricey....but they are a very good brand of lights and the build quality is superb. I'd need a light which is no longer (in terms of size) than that, can be mounted to handlebars, has an internal rechargeable battery with a decent run-time.

Thanks!

HOW MUCH?

My last three bikes combined cost less than that.

Actually, that's not true. It was the last four ....

I've not found anything. The best I managed was a Nitenumen NE01 18650 powered front like with a USB charging circuit built in - it was fine for dodging potholes at a decent clip on my road bike. Not a dedicated solution however.

I believe Jetbeam do something but I wasn't overly sold. Nitecore have the BR35 but it's pricey - albeit much less so than the Exposure light you linked to.

Exposure lights are overpriced, but I do have a rear light (Flare perhaps?) and it is very, very good at what it does.

Cateye Volt 1700 might be worth a look. I've got the 800 and it gives plenty of light for me but doesn't penetrate as far as you might want for fast road cycling.

I am really pleased with this. Real comfortable size and jumps from moonlight to turbo very easily.

My m1x I bought in their sale has turned up, I’ve given it to my wife to give to me for Christmas smile It takes one 18650 which is what I wanted. I have a small fenix I usually carry that takes a cr123a lithium battery but I wanted a more powerful one that takes a rechargeable.

Nice!

I was looking for a mid sized tactical light, I got a Fenix PD35 and an Olight M2R. They both seem excellent so far, need to go for a walk (well, a roll) in the dark to really test them out.

Just bought this head torch off Amazon, £15 Chinese special with a 18650 battery.

Great value, replacing an old hat Petzl Tikka. Is pretty punchy at 1000 lumens. Probably die in a ball of fire with the battery....

Matched up with Lenser T7.2 & the searchlight madness that is the Nitecore Tiny Monster 16!
