By the way; the torch takes 3 batteries, the charger has 2. I rather like the idea of a charger that would take 3 (or 4) at a time. Any recommendations?
How about this:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Trustfire-TR-003-4CH-145...

Thanks for the reply , I wouldn't want just to send it back for a replacement because I dropped it , it wasn't faulty at all and they guys were pretty helpful when my delivery didn't arrive at my house . Will email the company and explain what happened, maybe they will take pity on me lol .
If not, open it up and see what's broken. Bet it's something pretty easy/obvious and a quick blast with the soldering iron fixes it.Check this out:

Not got much to compare it against as I'm not a torch connoisseur but can highly recommend the ITP Eluma SA2 having had mine since Christmas, very well built, has a good range of brightness options and on full power plenty of light for anything I've needed.

Bump! As the days are drawing in I've decided I must get a torch soon - any NEW good deals/suggestions in the £30 area that can be recommended? Or just go through the ones already mentioned?
What size are you thinking of? Keychain torch or Pocket torch or large torch?PugwasHDJ80 said:
whats the brightest LEd at the moment
need a new 18650 torch for this winter and dog walking- woudl like something with a good long throw as already haev something with a nice spread.
I'd say still hard to beat this one, especially as it's gone down from $37 to $25! Does it all, lasts a good time even on high. Use protected batteries though as it seems to have no voltage sensor on the driver.need a new 18650 torch for this winter and dog walking- woudl like something with a good long throw as already haev something with a nice spread.

Pocket or Keychain I would say - not large, just something to keep in the coat for walking the dog.
This is by far the brightest small/tiny light I've got. Simple screw-the-top-down-to-turn-on function, a quick on/off/on flick changes modes.Project C said:
This comes with a CR123A but also works with 16340 batteries; as I would have to buy a charger and at least one more battery is 16340 better than CR123A?
CR123 is a primary (throw-away) battery; 16340 (16mm x 34mm x 0 (round)) is a rechargable CR123 - a RCR123.Rechargables tend to run to a slightly higher voltage with less amp/hour capacity than primaries, so they'll drive the torch a little brighter but for less time.
Which is better? (FIGHT!) Depends rather on how much you'll use it - I use primaries for the cr123 torches as they last ages and I don't use each torch so much. They're also cheap when you buy in bulk. The rechargables obviously have a higher start-up cost and very occasionally catch fire/explode - don't charge over night or unattended! Protected batteries are safer, but shoe-horning the protection circuit in costs a little more capacity.
On balance, I'd order maybe 6 or 10 cr123s with the torch (should be about $1 each) and see how they last for you before getting into rechargables.
Once you're recharging, mind, 18650 torches really do pack some power
As many before me have said already, I now need to buy a new torch!
So, I want two torches, one big for the house and occasional camping trips. Then another smaller one for walks home from the pub and things like that.
Budget? Say £20-30 each. I'd like them to be fairly robust too.
Any suggestions?

I do love my gadgets but on this thread there is little mention of HID torches. Anyone use these ?
High price and warm-up time mean that, in my mind, they're restricted to professional/job use really. I usuually want light NOW, but for a short time. A £30 18650 cree is approaching low end HID brightness, for a tenth of the price.Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
