Battery availability is a good point - I'm just complacent when it comes to having chargers with me all the time. The i1R though has a built in usb port so I'm never really caught short on that. The "Be Prepared" Scout has never left me!
Am I right in thinking though that the rechargeable batteries can discharge their power more efficiently than a regular AA or AAA battery, so allow the LED to run brighter but for less time?

Rechargeable lithium ion batteries are able to discharge at a far greater rate than alkaline batteries so will make a torch brighter if the power source is what's limiting the output.
I'd say nowadays that a USB socket is far more easy and ubiquitous than AAA batteries, a couple of years back I had a neighbour knock on my door at night and ask if I had any batteries to spare as his remote had died and he had none in the house.
The only downside of the mini Olight to me is that it's not USB-C but that's around 2mm wider than the Micro USB so wouldn't likely fit and have the torch the same width.
After six months and three attempts (Acebeam W30 was cancelled due to Covid hitting the supply chain and the first Weltool W4 I ordered was seized by customs) I finally have a LEP flashlight, it's the Weltool W4 and it's immense, has the claimed throw of 2.6km.
Brought it to Inverness last week and was illuminating one end of Loch Ness from the other which was over 2.5km wide.
Sadly a phone camera doesn't do it justice, in real life it looks a lot better I have a proper DSLR so may do some research with camera settings and try and get a video at night that doesn't immediately wash out as soon as the lights turned on.
Woke up yesterday morning and it was foggy and the beam cutting through that was truly something else.
Although the lights a one trick pony, doesn't have much practical real world uses and my gf thinks I'm mad spending so much on just a torch I think it's money well spent, the price of being an early adaptor.

That was quick! Can’t complain for a fiver, smaller and brighter than my trusty i3E which sadly died an early death recently
need a key chain light, and this could fit the bill
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B019HXDV6A/ref=cm_sw_r...
I quite like the replacement especially at a fiver. Would be happy if I’d paid the retail price of £15 for it. Seems better built than the i3E and the fact that it’s rechargeable is a bonus as I always forget to buy batteries

Not surprised they seized the first one, they probably thought it was a lightsaber! After six months and three attempts (Acebeam W30 was cancelled due to Covid hitting the supply chain and the first Weltool W4 I ordered was seized by customs) I finally have a LEP flashlight, it's the Weltool W4 and it's immense, has the claimed throw of 2.6km.

I think they may have opened the packaging and read the warning at Heathrow Customs and decided it wasn't allowed, it's a grey area in EU law when it comes to laser output.
Heads up if anyone wants a decent 21700 flashlight there's currently a flash deal on a Sofirn IF25A on Amazon today for £28 instead of £48 for the next 8 hours

Not that I need another torch, but......
Probably had a limited run at the lightning deal price, I noticed it on this website which is good for flashlight deals (it also has an active facebook page).

I love Olight stuff and have many.
Currently cheesed off with them though. Yesterday they had limited edition pink keyring torches on sale to aid cancer research. Advertised the sale for a few days starting at 8:00pm. 8:03, all sold out. That's just cheap advertising to bring people to the site.

i am sure this has been asked before but short of reading all 170 pages, any recommendation for a torch for around £15. There are obviously millions on ali express or ebay but dont know which ones are decent...I will only use occasionally around the house and already spend too much money this month on other tools...Ideally I want AAA/AA battery torch so i can use rechargeable cells i already have rather than buying new 18650 battery/charger...thanks a ton..
I would spend a bit more. Something like an Olight 15T is 300 (real ish) lumens and runs of 1 x AA. £30 ish.
If you want to go up to 2xAA then Fenix E20. Slightly more power (in reality very similar) and better electronics. £40 ish.
If you want 1xAA then the Fenix E12 is very similar to the Olight 15T but not as powerful. Costs same.
You might find all of them a smidge cheaper if you look around.

Ledeak T6, but it's really an 18650 battery though it comes with a triple AAA adaptor and batteries.Amazon

Another vote for this, had one for a while until I mistakenly lent it to someone and never got it back. Recently bought a similar one on Prime Day, all fairly standard issue. Only complaint with these torches is that no one really does a simple on off button without it changing modes each timeAmazon

I've got 2 of these, originally bought as bike lights but have been used mostly as torches. One has a much looser zoom collar which makes it unsuitable for cycling, but the other is decent.Amazon
