I think that Farnell include P&P in the list price, where as RS don't (they add it to your order later).£26.55 seems a little more expensive than it should to me...
So the base price is still the announced £22.
Farnell site invites you to register your interest. In small writing -
"By providing your contact details you are agreeing for your details to be used for marketing purposes by companies within the Premier Farnell Group."
How to get 1000's of names onto a mailing list in a couple of hours.

Not odd at all, Farnell and RS are the two biggest industrial electronic component suppliers in the UK. This release of the Pi was intended to be for developers rather than the general public, and this is basically a bare-bones single board dev kit like the Arduino (or thousands of other boards) with the "full" release of the properly cased and packaged consumer edition coming in the autumn. If you check the sites, you will see loads of other similar boards.
I understand from the Pi's main site that Farnell and RS are also taking over responsibility for production, paying the designers a royalty. I can't think of any retailers who would commit to something like that, they demand a 200-400% mark-up on retail products, and the Pi is pretty much selling at cost price.

£31.86 seems a bit much for the Farnell pre-order, think I'll wait and see what the other place comes up with.
Anyone else think the 2 choices of retailers are a bit odd? I'd never heard of them before today!
I hadn't heard of Farnell before, but RS has been around for ever and is a big company. Both are electric component type companies, rather than consumer product sellers, so I can see why Raspberry Pi picked them - and, of course, why they were interested in stocking themAnyone else think the 2 choices of retailers are a bit odd? You've never heard of Radio Spares? I admit that Farnell are less well known, I first encountered them about 15 years ago when we wanted reels of surface mount components for a new product at work. Both are absolutely huge in electronic component and other hardware supply, admittedly mainly to trade although I have been known to buy stuff over the counter at RS in Bristol - curiously they were the most convenient place to get some O-rings for an engine build and male-male BSP adapters for plumbing in the oil cooler when I was putting the Davrian together. Probably not the normal reason people buy stuff from them
From the link above, does pre-ordering guarantee you receive one in the next couple of months?
I'm not sure if it's worth clicking `buy` when there is no guarantee the things have even been produced yet!
is the main reason for people wanting one the fact it can be used as a media device for the TV? I'm looking to have a play and see what can be done with it.
