I was the same when I got my iPad 2, got it, didnt really bother with it. My kids loved it though, but it grew on me and it goes everywhere with me now.

If you don't own an iPad get the ipad3 and make it the 64 gig version,
If you have an ipad2 and need another iPad get the ipad3,
If you own an ipad2 and don't need another one stick with it, unless your a gadget geek and must have the latest stuff.

I really wanted to be blown away with the new one but, After playing with it for a good 10 mins I couldn't justify upgrading for the sake of it, but its good to see things moveing on and getting better.

Quite agree.

It has undoubtably been made better than the iPad 2 making it the best tablet available IMO. Just not quite enough to make me move from my iPad 2.

Just a heads up for anyone thinking of buying a 3rd party case with the built in sleep/awake function. It looks like Apple have fitted a magnet in the new iPad for the sleep/awake function. This means that polarity is important and if the magnet in the case is the wrong way round the sleep/awake function will not work.

Some case manufacturers have already released their new iPad cases without being aware of the issue and so some people are finding out that the sleep/awake function isn't working. If anyone is thinking of buying a new iPad case with this feature it may be worth either testing the case in the shop or holding off until the case manufacturers have fixed their cases.

Thought they'd done that with the 2.

Had a good play with a 2 and a 3 side by side earlier today. On the home screen the difference is not that noticeable but loading up the same app and content side by side did show the 3 is clearer, has more vibrant colours and is brighter. So much so that my thought of "hmmm well the 64gb ipad2 will do me nicely now its discounted" has gone out of the window - the 3 is only 70/80 quid more. I just need to do some musician-based research to see whether its worth the plunge. But the apps once again just seem faster, more polished and less glitchy than Android ones (which is what I'm used to).

I'm guessing with icloud storage, the 64 gb limit will be less of a concern over time. Sorely tempted. biggrin

I bought the 64GB version, and very glad I did as a fairly modest amount of stuff has already eaten up 25GB and I need a good 10-20GB free when I use it as a photo back up device 'out in the field'.

I've upgraded from an iPad 1, the screen and speed are the most noticeable aspects, hugely impressive. Battery life seems to be on a par with the 1 (2.5hrs of Sky Go for the GP this morning only used 10% battery life) but charging the thing takes for........ever.

Surfing/gaming aside I use mine for a lot of photo editing, in that respect it's worth the upgrade alone. Super quick and the screen is comfortably the best I've ever used (in any respect) for editing, it really picks up on the slightest flaw, particularly with regards to sharpness.

Interesting that, thanks. Mine would be mainly music and photos plus the odd film for commuting to work so good to see how useful it is for those.

I got mine for exactly the same reason. I've not used one before and am struggling. Can you help ?
I've attached my SD card using the Camera Connector. The card has 1,000 pix on it but I only want to import 500. How can I do that without tapping each thumbnail individually ?

It can be pretty painful at times! I've got used to clearing my memory cards (or using different ones for each event/day/trip) to avoid exactly this problem. As far as I know there is no easy way around this, wait until you want to start deleting lots....

I'm looking forward to outputting some pics from Snapseed etc, my iPad (1) would only save edits at about 800kb (due to limitations of the hardware, which essentially made it redundant for any remotely serious use), I'm hoping/assuming this will be much better.

If you spent the time tapping the thumbnails, instead of complaining on here, you would have been done by now biggrin

maybe. I imagine it would be good for meetings as opposed to a notepad and pen, and watching vids on the train etc. No need for laptop bag either.

Matt - make sure you use the charger that came with it and not your regular phone charger. Mine was taking ages to charge until I decided to use what appears to be the more heavy duty charger that came in the iPad box.

I'm curious as to just what people use Ipads for. Having never owned any Apple stuff apart from a Mac Mini, which was sent back a few days later as I just could not get my head round it (and it gave me a mega headache for some reason!), I just don't see what you can do with them apart from web browsing.

I like the look of them, and all my mates have ipads and iphones which i've had a play on, but after a quick browse on PH and maybe a few other sites, I'm lost with what you actually do with them.

On my laptop, I can play DVDs, flash videos, browse the web, Do all my NVQ work on it, check emails, plug in various different devices via USB etc.

I could only see me using an ipad for web browsing. As far as I know it doesn't support flash, no biggie but a lot of websites have flash content nowadays, cant watch my dvds on it due to lack of dvd drive. It has no USB ports, so work completed on the works computer, i cant transfer it onto the Ipad, and talking of work, I dont think an on screen keyboard would be anywhere near as good for word processing / excel stuff as a proper keyboard.

I know people say battery life is good and its good for photo's, but I can view photo's on my laptop just fine and battery life on my laptop is a good 5 hours.

This isn't a troll post, I'm genuinely interested in what people actually do with them apart from browse the web (seems an expensive way of browsing the web!)

By contrast, ive used an iphone, and these I can see the point of. its small enough to fit in your pocket (so truely portable, unlike the larger ipad), you can make calls on the iphone, and still browse the net while out and about.

And finally, without a stand, I imagine browsing the web on an ipad for any length of time is a pain in the bum. At least my laptop sits on my lap which seems easier.

Im confused why so many people want an ipad, when a normal laptop or even a netbook seems to do more for much cheaper confused

Rather than post a big long post, I'll just advise you to go and look at the variety of apps on the app store, both free and paid. That's what you can do. The limitation really is the user.

I think it must be me! I've just had a quick look on apple's website at some of the apps.

Iplayer app - why? why not just go to bbc.co.uk\iplayer?

Social netowrking apps - they have websites too, why not just load safari and browse to them?

trip advisor - has a website, why do you need to download an app for it?

it seems pointless and expensive.

People say they listen to music on it? but why? surely an ipod is a better device if you want to listen to music? its more portable too.

I need educating!
