The first one is still a decent tablet. I was using it all day, every day until I got my 2. Bloody good devices.

It is 70% bigger than the ipad2 battery. It will take longer to charge.

Can't understand all the charge-time whingers. Just charge it overnight FFS why does it matter? If you let it run down during the day then that's your look-out - it takes days to run down!

Yup. Mine goes on overnight, sorted for the next day. They last forever if you just use it occasionally as well.

My point was that I left it over night for 9 hours and it still wasn't charged

Well I just charged mine for 2 hours and it went from from 12% to 65%. Not fully charged yes, but I don't see the issue. That's plenty for a couple of days for my use. If that isn't enough for a day, then you prob need to put it down and work on how to have a richer "meatspace" life

Congratulations, mine wouldn't and therefore think there's a fault with it

Anybody else had problems on the ipad 3 with wifi being very slow, and dropping out? And the unit getting hot too?

Ive called apple care and they made me an appointment to swap it on saturday at my local store. Hopefully the new one will be ok, and i hope it will be a new one not a refurbished one.
Set your security to WPA only, this works better on Apple products.

Take it to an apple store, and see what they say.

Mine took the same amount of time for the first 2 charges. Just charged it today and it took aprox 4-5 hours.

Hasn't the battery got a maximum number of recharges? Are you not better of discharging it fully and charging back to 100%, then half charging to maximise battery life/performance?

Take a look at Apples website and what they recommend...

I've had mine since day of launch and allow it to fully discharge almost every time before re-charging. When I get time I'll take it to an Apple store

Fully discharging isn't the best course of action. Only meant to run it down completely once every 4 weeks.

The link above to Apples website recommends discharging Fully at least one cycle per month, I've always thought it best to fully discharge where possible

That was true of Ni-cad batteries, not lithium-ion batteries. They prefer not to be fully discharged, though I believe doing so does improve the accuracy of the percentage left indication.

Maybe you're just using the wrong charging cable. The one that comes with the iPad is rater higher than ones used for iPhones/iPods, so will charge it faster.

Nope, definitely using the correct charger
