How are people getting on the the black ones? Is the finish holding up ok? I have a 4 and use it bare but with a sleeve case when not using it - still looks nearly new. Thinking of getting a 5 in a month or so.
Mine is a mess. Got a black 5 on the release date and it just got the normal usage my phone gets in 3 weeks. The edges on all 4 sides has very small chips, with the aluminium colour showing through, and the slate back has 2 chips and 1 scratch. My iPhone 4 had loads of scratches but being glass it didn't really show. Can't imagine what it would look like in a year. Don't really do cases - tried one in desperation but hated it.

So I phoned Apple to see if I could get it swapped out for a white one. Looking at the online examples the white one seems to survive a lot better. Got all wound up ready for a good fight and the barstewards couldn't have been more helpful wink New white one will arrive in 4-5 days and the black one will then be collected a later date by another courier.

is this a consequence of the "saphire glass"? Tbh if it has that negative effect, why didn't they just leave the glass they had on the 4(S)? How many of the camera lenses have been broken/scratched because they are made out of "regular" glass/plastic? Isn't this just a case of "if it isn't broke, don't fix it?".

I'd say yes, my watch has sapphire glass and in strong direct sunlight it does have a blue tint to it.

I can't say I've noticed any wrong with photos so far but it isn't really sunny enough to test hehe

That's pretty impressive to be fair. They could have told you to bolt.

So anyone wants to speculate on the 5S/6? smile

I'm betting:

  • NFC
  • Quad core (with 2 + 2 power-saving cores)
  • >1800 mAH battery.
  • Finish that last longer than an M&S Sandwich

Nice.

Is there much of a waiting list.

I obviously want it immediately.

In case anyone else is wondering about lead times etc, I called Three at 11AM this morning and a 32GB iPhone 5 in Black should be on my doorstep tomorrow.

Conversely, my friend ordered a 16GB iPhone 5 in Black last week and his isn't due 'till the end of October.

(I have to send my SIM free iPhone 5 back to Apple, so I'm getting a replacement on contact).

Received my new 5 from Orange today - 2 and a bit weeks after ordering it.

I've gone straight from a 3GS to a 5 and am very impressed with the improvement.

However, my USB cable refuses to work. It will not charge and will not connect to my laptop. If I wiggle it and hold the cable at a certain angle it will work but as soon as I let it go it stops working.

I was wondering if anyone has suffered a similar problem. I'm planning to pop into my local Apple Store tomorrow to get a replacement.

Went to my local Apple Store and had a good play with a 5. Asked if they had any sim free 5's, to which the awnser was no. I was asked if I wanted to get an email if they get any in stock tonight. I said yes and was told I could register there and then, or do it at home. I chose there and then as I might of forgorten otherwise. I haven't got the email yet, and I can't see how to do it again on the Apple site. Does anyone where it is on the website?

http://www.apple.com/uk click on the iphone - select buy - reserve in store, select store and fill in details.

Good luck though as 90% of them are preferenced to contracts and not SIM only, I know!

This makes sense. Apple need to keep the carriers happy, they don't offer the most carrier friendly business model, the networks will get lot of 2yr contracts off the back of this.

I think it makes a difference "when" you reserve... I did it a few days (when I remembered) but I guess most times it was 11am, 12pm or even mid-afternoon.

Last Wednesday I did it at 9.15am for a 16Gb white Sim free and got my email later that evening. Collected Thursday - so try and reserve one at 9am if you really want one!

It doesn't its random, you just got lucky and well done!

My friend reserved at 4pm and got one on his first attempt and another friend (both of them Apple developers) reserved on 9 accounts (with entirely different details) for two weeks starting at 9am every morning and still doesn't have one, both at the same store.

I've been following this and talking to some Apple employees and the process is a random and I'd suggest somewhat unfair since it, in my view should work on the basis that first come first served as opposed to a lottery type process.

That's clearly an iPhone 4 holder - when will the iPhone 5 version be out?
