I'm using mine in modem mode with a Cisco dual wan router (for my VDSL connection) and a Unifi Pro dedicated wifi AP. Now that kicks ass biggrin

Absolutely rock solid in that configuration.

I wish virgin would sort this out.

When I go up stairs i get a better wifi signal from the house over the road than my superhub.

Reviving an old thread here.. Is the superhub still a piece of st or did they finally get it working properly? Since I've been migrated over to Sky from Be my speeds have dropped from a steady 13 meg down to about 4 and I'm seriously considering moving to VM 50 meg broadband only package but all the superhub problems put me off last time. scratchchin

I would raise a ticket with Sky, they should be able to provide the same speed.

Are you talking about virgin 'fibre'? The SH is a bit pants unless it's operating in modem mode.

I've got a SuperHub 2 that on a 100 Meg connection which seems fine (never needs resetting etc.). The range on it does seem bad but this was true of the previous router so it could be a building issue.

I solved the problem with £30 of Powerline Wifi kit.

I don't know if it's a limitation of the technology but when using the 2.4GHz band on the router I only get 50 meg when running speed tests, to get the full 100Meg I need to be connected to the 5GHz band. Not all of my kit can connect to the 5GHz band and the range on that is even worse than on 2.4GHz.

Sorry for the rambling post, I guess the point is, even if you experience problems with the hub, you can always use it in Modem Mode and connect your own wireless router.

(If you do switch to Virgin, let me know, if I recommend you I think you get £50 off or free installation and I get something too).

They now supply a SuperHub 2, dual band WiFi, appears to work ok for me, there again the previous one was ok as well. You can always get an alternative router if you need to. Virgin cable BB is very good, fast, reliable, had it years, never let me down.

Thanks guys. Delmonte, have a look into your offers as the broadband only package does have a £50 install fee which would be nice to avoid. smile

Is there any way to check the contention ratio for a given area? I live semi-rural/suburbs so hopefully won't be an issue but would be nice to check.

I've just checked and if you PM me your Firstname, Surname, contact number and email address then Virgin will email you my virgin account details which you will need to enter when you register, then you will get the £50 installation for free and I get £50 off my bill.

Thanks. I'm going to try getting the full available speed out of Sky first. If that doesn't work then I'll be in contact.
