whilst typing in a "word" document last night, the words started deleting themselves? then dialogue box comes up do you want to send the files to the re cycle bin. Cannot say no as nothing happens with curser, also curser would not close document either. Did not want to say yes so tried CTl, alt, delete and end task, same result I think files were deleted.
Ran a virus scan with E trust and I have a list of infected files with status open error. Right click on them and press cure does not appear to do anything as running another scan gives same list.
What do I do next?

You didn't mention what operating system you are using, (win98, winxp, etc.), but assuming it is some recent windows version, try booting it in safe mode, (keep hitting F8 when it is booting up until you see a DOS menu), and try running the antivirus software in safe mode. It might work better then - the virus might not be loaded.

Also, does it say what virus it is? If you search on the virus name you can usually find information about how to remove it.

Last, you could try a different anti-virus program - I use AVG, with no problems for a year now. Get it for free from www.grisoft.com.

Thanks for that, I jumped the gun I assumed a virus because it said the files were infected because they were "open". Did a scan disc and retrieved the files from the recycle bin and appear to be ok.
