Are you still just getting unknown error?

Try using the windows built in one in network and sharing centre, might give a more useful error code.

The router is not even trying to 'answer' the connection.

Run -> CMD

telnet 176.35.197.204 1723

You should just get a clear black box with the cursor flashing.

Ctrl] to exit.

If so you're connecting to the router OK but the handshake's going wrong somewhere.

(You might need to add telnet in the add windows features control panel.)

Ping's a good start if you run the telnet command I posted this will ensure that you can connect at a basic VPN level.

the 1723 at the end of the command is the port your VPN router is listening on, if you can't telnet to that port it's probably AV/Firewall or router at your end.

it says telnet is not recognised as an internal or external command?

You'll need to add it in the programs and features control panel. Select turn windows features on or of and add the Telnet Client.

OK, so can reach it on some ports, not others. Almost certainly this is down to the Firewall on your PC or the router at your end.

Try disabling the PC firewall, are you using ant third party security products your AV might also be blocking stuff.

What is the router at your end?

You can't plain telnet to the Vigor router, except from the local network.

Can you confirm you haven't got any NAT > Port Redirection set up that involves port 1723 or PPTP?

OK, so you're connecting in the first instance, but the actual tunnel setup is failing, so we're back to this.

Try disabling the PC firewall, are you using ant third party security products your AV might also be blocking stuff.
