Just had an email to say prices are going up yet again. £3 for me.

I'm already on the lowest TV package after re-negotiating during the last round of price rises. Seriously considering Freeview and just keeping the broadband package, since so much of our viewing is streamed these days.

OOH they don't like you doing that it has the counter effect of making me think there TV service is actually a low cost item.
I am awaiting my letter / e mail etc. That will be fun

That reminds me, I need to do that as it's been a year. Bit of a pain really but every time I've told them I want to drop the TV they've thrown it in for free for a year, just means that I need to ring them up every 12 months to make sure they don't start charging me more again.

I have phone and broadband with them. I called yesterday and was offered about a tenner a month off after I threatened to cancel after being fed up with all the price rises. Could have possibly got it cheaper by going down the actual cancellation route but I'm happy with their service and it makes it cheaper than pre-price rises.

Got an email this week, ours is going up by £3.50pm which will take basic TV & 200mb BB up to nearly £55pm!

Thing is, BB alone is so expensive you may as well have the TV, there's no winning with them is there?

Like most others, we have little use for the phone.

I started this thread a few years back. I ended up ditching Virgin a couple of years ago, moved to BT on a special deal, this year moved to Now BB on a deal, I'll do the same again next year, may even move back to Virgin if they do a deal.

They are all out to screw as much as they can from their 'loyal' customers, they are just greedy, since Virgin was taken over by Liberty Global they have got even more greedy, obviously Liberty want to see a return on their investment.

You have to vote with your feet, cancel and see if they'll do a deal, if not move away and be willing to do so every contract.

It should be made illegal for prices to rise mid contract, a contract should be a contract. I'd happily sign up for a few years if they guaranteed no price rises.

Exactly this. Moved from Virgin to Sky now paying half what I was. That's some drop for in reality was just better broadband. Having said that, despite the Incredible family helping promote that Sky's wifi boxes have a huge range, we have found the opposite and I had to fork out a further £12 per month for a second box.

That's still £30 cheaper than I was paying with Virgin though/ But I do miss the live Moto GP...sigh

My 200 mbps BB (no phone) was going up from £40 to £43.50
A quick call to the 'thinking of leaving' option
Reduced to £28 for 18 months (with the £3.50 increase in Oct)
Very pleased as Openreach line is rubbish here.

Pretty happy overall
Virgin 200 BB @ £31.50 from Oct for 18 months.
SkyQ silver (main + 2 other boxes), incl sports package @ £55 (gave me sports ‘free’ for 18 months, as my F1 channel (which I didn’t know I should have until I called to negotiate) had never worked!
No need for landline as never used.

I rang Virgin a couple of weeks ago and cancelled my 100mb BB & phone package. They offered to reduce the bill to around £32/m immediately but I told them I was going regardless. Cue one phone call a few days later offering me a landline and 100mb BB for £29/m - I refused again. Then I received another call a week later saying I could keep the 100mb BB and lose the landline and pay £22/m. Result! The contract's for a year and the discount is for 18 months. Happy days.

I’m thinking I should have gone for a better discount! Was paying £43 for 200mb only and am now paying £43 for 350mb instead smile

They are very good at giving customers more speed they don't need, making out they are doing you a special deal. Unless you're streaming multiple HD feeds you don't need 200mb, let alone 350mbs.

For normal use 50mbs is perfectly adequate, If I where you I'd go back to them and try harder. £43/m for BB is way too much to pay.

That is a fair price. The problem is it will go up again mid contact. I'd happily sign up for 3 years or even more if they could guarantee that fixed price for the term.

It's a joke. Twice a year it seems to rise and these large companies state they see record profits but yet the prices always rise.

Mine went up £4pm and after a very quick call, managed to get the price below what I'm paying now which is £75. That's for 200mb BB, evening and weekend calls. XL TV package with an original TiVo and a V6 TiVo boxes. I just didn't want it to go over £80.

I'd be happy to have just BB but It's over £50pm for 200mb so in effect I'm getting a lot of channels and the phone for £25pm.

No it's not. 200Mb broadband plus phone line is £37 for a 12 month contract, then you ring them up again before the price goes up. Bit of a pain but worth one phone call a year I reckon.

They offer the Full House Bundle for £57.00/m to new customers. You need to cancel and call their bluff. Problem is now you've agreed a new price probably means you've started a new contract.

Isn't it? My mate is paying £35 for 50mb and when going into the Virgin store, I asked how much the 200mb BB is alone and they told me £50. Unless that's changed all of a sudden.

Yeah, new 12 month contract. I was told this would've been the best thing to do but cancelling the previous contract meant I would've lost the phone number which has been in the household since 1973.

Yeah if you've just signed a new contract then you're over a barrel really. If you ring them in the last month of your contract they'll happily put you on a 'new customer' contract price there and then in my experience.

BTW despite them offering broadband without a phone, it's always cheaper to take the phone line and not use it. They seem to charge a £3 premium for not supplying a phone line.
