A bit of help needed. I'm trying to set up a broadband link for a construction site. Due to length of the contract and the installation costs, a fixed line is out of the question so I want to use a 3G or 4G router. Anyone have any experience of using one? I don't want to spend a fortune, but do need a reliable one. It'll be attached to an external antenna.

There will be several users plus a printer which will connect via wired ethernet. There will be a need for a vpn connection to head office.

Asus RT68U with any 4G USB dongle plugged into one of the USB ports. The MiFi devices wireless transmission range is just a few metres. If you have a lot of steel on your site it's going to be dreadful.

The Asus router is a superb but of kit.

Back to this thread - we have been using a Proroute H820 3G/4G router for a few days now and it seems to be doing the job. Does anyone else have any experience of this router or the H685 (same guts, but only 1 LAN port)

After trying various solutions on constructions sites that were either dropping signal or just not robust enough for that environment, we're now using Cisco 819 units.

Pretty funny demo of how tough they are here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1BfhRauFvw

VPN, etc. is very easily managed too.
