Philips Hue Lighting - owners thread
Discussion
Coming soon on what I read on other pages!
Starting in September, Philips is introducing a line of E12 white candle bulbs, which are a brand new addition to the Hue family. Priced at $33 for a two pack, they are one of the least expensive Hue bulbs available, and like all of Hue’s new and revamped bulbs,
Like the old look bulbs may not light up like modern bulbs but look great!

I have an ambilight TV so have auto sync to my lights but for those who don’t want an ambilight TV you will soon be able to get a hue sync box. Pricey though.

If this proprietary box can lower the latency, however, then I might be interested. Although v. pricey. And I wouldn't be interested if the copy protection bit remains intact.
(Because then I couldn't grab copies of movies of Netflix or Google/Prime rentals...)
Actually - it looks really good!

I like that it can power two Play lights too - which is actually what I have behind my TV...

I don’t get this product!
I can understand it could be great for a party situation, but watching a movie would be hugely distracting.
It really isn’t. We watch all TV with ambilight and hue sync it makes viewing that much nicer. Although really hard to explain why. It’s one of them things you probably need to see to get. I can understand it could be great for a party situation, but watching a movie would be hugely distracting.
If you have an Android TV device there are apps you can install such as Hue Ambilight that do the same thing.
Do we know if the official box will handle DRM via encrypted HDMI if its taking a direct HDMI feed? Pretty useless if it can't.

Hadn't thought about the app angle!Do we know if the official box will handle DRM via encrypted HDMI if its taking a direct HDMI feed? Pretty useless if it can't.
Installed Hue Stream on my Nvidia Shield and it works brilliantly! That app's visualisation of how the light positions in the Hue app map into screen space in the Entertainment Area suggests that you need to visualise the vertical tv screen as the horizontal area shown in the Hue app *between* the couch and the screen. Hard to explain, but the result is that the light positions in the Hue app show the Play lights being halfway between the couch and the screen to get their associated screen mapping regions halfway up...

Has anybody purchased one of these? I need a new light for the patio and it would be good to use with Hue disco for parties! £100 for white and £140 for colour.
I bought the colour one - and am slightly disappointed TBHThe colours are all noticeably dimmer than white light. Whilst the same may be true of other bulbs, it seems particularly noticeable with this one.
I now wish I'd just bought the white one and saved a few quid.
