The hue lightswitch cover (so the hue remote goes over the switch) is currently on a lightning deal if anyone’s interested - a 2 pack as well.

Looking some advice here as I'm new to Hue.

I've been given the latest echo show (ZigBee) and a hue bulb. All works fine with Alexa.

I now want the outdoor motion sensor so I can have a light come on in the house if someone is in the drive.

Do I need the hub?? and what sort of range from the hub could I expect in ideal conditions? Are we talking a few feet or meters. It will have to work at least through the conservatory windows.

Me too. I have a few of these and they do not look great. But I haven't found any single ones that look better

The double ones are OK.....I am happy with them

I am almost tempted to swap out the singles for doubles and buy another switch....almost but not quite!

In the interests of balance I should have added that they are the best single switch on the market, but that is saying nothing.

Soon I will get round to making some but realistically not until after Christmas

A friend has Aurora smart lighting - the android app is crap but the remotes look a lot better than the Philips ones - they are Zigbee compatible and I may get a couple

Really annoyingly the Bridge seems to be getting hard to get (without paying full whack £40 for it). Lots of the current bulb starter packs now only come with the Hue Dimmer (now that it has bluetooth and so can control the newer bulbs directly) and don't include the bridge any more.

But you do still need the bridge if you want to do the cleverer stuff such as anything to do with timers, or sync to music, or slow fades.

The packs that do come with the bridge, tend to come with the new Hue Button rather than the Dimmer, but as far as I can see the Button does less than the Dimmer; but being new it tends to push the price of the pack right to the max, such that the "starter pack" with bridge and button isn't that much of a bargain any more compared to just buying things separately.

There are some bridges on Ebay, but because people have seen that the brand-new separately boxed bridge is £40 then that's what they ask for it on ebay, but I don't trust them, the ones from them will probably have the wrong mains adaptor pins or be unusable in some other way!

I fitted two of these at the weekend, except that I didn't care about keeping the original switch underneath them.

So I basically removed about 14mm of material making them sit much closer to the wall. They still don't look fantastic, but it's definitely an improvement in my eyes.

Anyone have any pics they’d care to post? I’ve just fitted 17 bulbs and strips in the kitchen so controlling with the remote is a must, and people keep using the light switches still so need to cover them!

... or simply remove the 'people' - problem solved.

I'll post a picture when I get home from work.

(No mickey taking though, as it wasn't the neatest job I've ever made of something!)

A dramatic but effective approach...

Is it possible to use 2 outdoor sensors to control the same set of lights?

I've just put a hue lamp in each of the kids bedrooms in addition to 2 in the hall/landing and 2 in the living room.

Each kid has an echo dot that is in it's own group. Is there any way I can limit each dot to see and control only the lamp in that room? If that makes any sense.

Thanks

These plastic switch covers are good where you absolutely can't change the switch for whatever reason, but want to stop people turning them off. I use these on things like PIR porch lights which like Hue should be left on all the time, and in offices where an important PC plugs in etc.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Prevent-Accidental-Switch...

Clear so not very obtrusive, and has a cunning slot so you can still turn it off (with a credit card) if necessary.
