I presume the Hue motion sensor can turn a Hue light on for 1 minute or whatever and then turn it off again.

But can it / the stock Hue app, take (for example) a light that is already on and blue, and turn it white for 30 seconds, and then turn it back to blue, rather than off? That would be very cool if it can.
You can - after the allotted time you select the ‘After’ setting to ‘Return to previous state’. So you’re lights are on blue, you set the sensor to change to a white scene (or whatever), and then after the allotted time it returns to blue:

If I decide to go full hue, especially for the new kitchen and soffits/fascia, where is best to buy a lot of Gu10s some mixed white and some colour.

I have found keeping an eye on the hot deals UK Hue section to be a good idea. If Hue stuff isn't on offer in the UK then it often is in other European countries via their local Amazon sites, which deliver to the UK no bother.

These are Hue compatible and seem cheap:

not tired them myself but I may purchase 6 from my kitchen.

Gledopto are hue compatible, and miles cheaper; but.... the colour rendition isn’t quite as good.
As a price example; I bought 4 ses e14’s from their Aliexpress store for £50 delivered, took about 20 days from China.

Yes I bought a gledopto LED controller to swap out one in a fancy ceiling light - however it doesn't come with the abilty to change the "on" state like hue does. That would be annoying on a wider set (annyoing enough on the ceiling)

Will need to test the GU10s to see if the same - think I ordered some anyway.

As above comment - can the hue app control the "on state"

I used Ikea GU10s in my kitchen where I did not need colour and app control is possible.

What exactly do you mean by the "on state"? The app can switch them on or off or dim them, they are controlled either by Google Home or a Hue dimmer switch

Likewise have been using them in my kitchen for a couple of years now, with a Hue switch, occasionally one will not switch on but an on and off sorts that.

I presume you mean the setting for what happens if the lights are turned off completely fro. The original switch?

That is a specific Hue function so only available on first party bulbs ATM

It shouldn't be an issue in normal use as ideally the bulbs will be powered on permanently but it can be annoying if there's a power cut.

Personally I've made sure all bedroom lights are genuine bulbs, for the few 3rd party bulbs i do have there's a routine running on the bridge to turn them off shortly after power is restored (the power recovery option available in Hue Dynamic)

Hi guys,

few questions:
- what’s the best in line solution that you have found for hue? And can it dim the light in question?
- has anyone found any brushed silver / chrome base plate covers for use with a hue button? I am replacing a switch in our house and as it’s a new property with brushed silver switches throughout the white ones would not look great..

Thanks.

Anyone got a Lily XL spotlight in their garden?

I was just wondering whether it would run off of the mains or need a proprietary PSU?

I've got an old motion sensor spotlight out there currently that needs replacing and it would be handy if I could just take one down and replace it with a nice Hue outdoor spotlight. Bit of a ball-ache if it needs it's own PSU though.

It needs a base unit PSU to connect to.

Damn. What about the Discover? From the pictures I've seen it looks like it's mains powered.

Yes that works one 240v. I think I might get one of these myself.

Evening all. Looking to get some outdoor Hue lights to add to our system. Can anybody point me in the direction of who has the most competitively priced products?

To start with I want a couple of Hue Econic lights & sensors to switch them on/off.

TIA Andrew

Most of our house in now Hue lighting so when the attic fluorescent went phutt the other week I naturally thought to use Hue on a motion sensor setup.

Then I saw these on the “Tools you wished you’d bought sooner thread” ......

Built in motion sensor, 13 amp plug on a very generous 10metre flex.

Costco 40 quid each but a minimum order of 2 (sold individually in store though).

Edit: free delivery and arrived the next day.

Anybody know how many Zones (rather than rooms) you can control with each outdoor motion sensor?

Not sure but could you not just create a zone specifically for the sensor to use.

Alternatively, and I'd highly recommend it, would be to use a 3rd party app like iConnectHue or HueEssentials to.program your devices. You can create groups which won't clutter up your zones and program it exactly as you'd like. It takes the programming to another level.
