Hey guys, one for your help... in our games room / cinema room I have:
- 9 x Hue GU10 spotlights
- 5 x Hue E27/E14 bulbs in lamps
- 1 x Hue led strip
- 9 x Hue bulbs in a chandelier

So a total of 24 hue bulbs. I’d like them to be controlled from the hue dimmer switches, but is it true they can only control 10 bulbs each?

If so I would need 3 switches... that being the case are there any wall plates to suit 3 hue dimmer switches?

Alternatively is there a switch which could handle all 24?

Thanks for the advice.

Ok don’t know what the online Q&A was referring to, but I just connected 30 bulbs to the switch and it worked fine... guess I will have no issues with a single dimmer to control games/cinema room. Ignore above!

I'll repeat the advice I e given several times which is avoid using the Hue app for programming your switches and sensors and instead use one of the far superior 3rd party apps.

Your choice varies depending on your OS, if you're using an iPhone then iConnectHue seems to be the default choice. If you're an Android user like me then Hue Essentials, All4Hue or Hue dynamics are all good options. I use Hue Essentials and All4Hue for all of my programming.

Ha, it should be bright when these are all installed! But it’s a tricky room as around 400sqft, painted dark blue (the ceiling too), and one large but north facing window with shutters. So it’s been a challenge to get the lighting right.

Ok thanks for the advice regarding apps, I will have a play with that this afternoon.

Slippery slope this hue business. Our kitchen lights were on the blink again and fed up with constantly replacing with cheap leds I decided to plump for a hue starter kit. That was Monday. Now I have kitted our the hall, Landing and lounge as well. Loving it really. But...

I can’t seem to get home and away working. Tried several attempts. Any tips on settings? I’m logged into hue account. Location services always on for hue. I have myself and my wife’s phone added to the multi users lab thingy. Doesn’t seem to work though.

Wait until you discover the motion sensors that’s an expensive addition but so worth it.

There is a niggle in the back of my mind over the movement sensors, that and a couple of light strips for the kitchen cupboards. Oh and maybe.... like I said, slippery slope. Getting bad looks from the missus now!

Any tips on the best apps? There seems to be hundreds! Also want a way to add scenes/ experiences to Siri and have it auto default to playing audio through the Sonos?

Any ideas?

Your mention of Siri makes me presume your an iPhone user, the most commonly recommended iOS app is iConnectHue

Correct. We are an Apple family. Will take a look at the app you mentioned. Thanks for the tip.

So, we have some Phillips hue bulbs in various lamps.

I’ve named them according to room

Sometimes my wife has a switcheroo and moves them around, so the office light ends up in the kitchen etc and I have to go into the hue/alexa app and rename them.

I came home tonight and a light in the hall is now in the office and the one in the office is now in the kitchen.

My wife says – It’s OK, I’ve fixed the bulbs.. I’m think – wow she’s figured out how to work the app ! smile

No she says…I just switched the bulbs around.

I begrudgingly have bought a v2.

What are we supposed to do with all the v1s now? Has anyone managed to get a vanilla Linux running on them?

So, those "Friends of Hue" smart switches we discussed here *ages* ago have started, finally, showing up.

I like the idea and the appearance, but £60 for a switch is a bit too much even for this house where Hue is otherwise everywhere...

I liked the appearance until I realised that what looks like a double switch is just a single.....

IMHO it's less intuitive than a regular Hue switch - visitors would have no chance with that.

Haven't seen a mention of these but went for a Hue Welcome colour light for the back garden. We did have an old light but I re-did the wall with a new outdoor socket and fused spur for the light (I will get round to painting over the gap!). Very impressed with it, colours look great and the 'energise' setting lights the whole garden up very bright.

It’s as useless as all the others though, because it doesn’t actually replace a wired uk lightswitch.

There are still loads of fittings taking g4 or g9 bulbs that still cannot join the Hue ecosystem.
