Am I right in thinking someone posted a link somewhere regarding a sound to light type device for hue devices?
We have a lightstrip that is behind the tv and unit which would be excellent for PS4 and films if it reacted to what was on screen.
Not Hue but this kit is responsive to what's on screen via HDMI. Looks pretty snazzy in the demo.

So it’s new TV time, now I can get some cracking prices on Sony TV’s due to a contact however I’ve seen a 50” ambilight TV at a good price and having worked in the office next door to the guys who designed the kit many moons ago I’m impressed with the tech.

Now I’ve seen I can hook it up to my hue lights for a fully immersive viewing experience. Has anyone done this? And is it worth me going down this route considering I may be able to get more TV for the same money?

Anyone know how I can get Alexa to change my lights to one of the Philips Hue scenes such as - Savanna, Tropical, Relaxed, Concentrate etc? Or can I only choose those scenes from within the Philips Hue app?

When I ask Alexa to do it, she says she doesn't know how to do it.

Are they showing up as scenes in your smart home?

"Turn on arctic aurora in lounge" works for me.

Thanks, they now work perfectly when I give her your command of "Turn on Arctic Aurora in lounge".

I was obviously giving her the wrong command when saying "Alexa, set lounge lights to Arctic Aurora", which she wouldn't do. Seems like I have to be very specific with my commands.

I had the same issue. It's a bit like learning a new language. Same with the Harmony hub.

Same with Google

"Play Phil Spectre White Christmas"
"sorry I can't either find or play that at the moment"

"Play Phil Spectre Christmas album"
"Playing Phil Spectre White Christmas"

Sometimes it's enough to swear at it
Fortunately
"I don't know how to do that at the moment"

So I decided to order the 50” ambilight TV after seeing numerous videos with it hooked up to the hue lights I was sold. Should arrive this week so will let you know how it is.

So I purchased a 50” Phillips ambilight TV and it arrived today. I’m very impressed. A few app issues (I believe I need to do a software update) but picture and sound quality is very impressive.

The reason I went with the Sony is for £400 and the ability to sync your lights it seemed like a great idea, and it was! A real simple setup by pressing the button on top of the hue hub and it then let me select what bulbs I would like.

I have 4 coloured bulbs in the living room (I tried the 4 but have now dropped to 3) I have a bulb either side of the tv and the main light above the sofa. On screen you adjust where the lights are positioned and the brightness you require and then you’re all set to go.

Rather than post a video of my living room for you all to critique the carpet I thought I’d post a video of someone else’s setup. https://youtu.be/3Ve9aLnAALM

Philips Hue Labs have a TV mimmic feature where the room lights flicker to resemble a TV being on. Useful at night when in bed or away from home to make it look like someones home. I set it on my iPhone last night and it worked really well.
