Not at all, I was looking at the ambient ones - I have only the on/off ones in my house so far - I have no need for the fancier ones. I didn’t realise other bulbs worked with the hue kit - will look into the third party bulbs
This is a decent reference for compatibility.

Both Innr and Ikea are decent options, they're not quite as good as Hue but only in relatively minor ways
neither Innr or IKEA bulbs dim quite as low as Hue bulbs and they don't dim up and down quite as smoothly IMO, nothing that annoys particularly and it's not obvious unless you have a mixture of Hue and others in the same room.

I originally had 8 Innr GU10 in my kitchen and I was very happy with them, however after a couple of days 1 of my bulbs started making an awful whistling noise, the rest were fine but genuine White ambience GU10 were on special offer (40 quid for a twin pack and on a 3 for 2 offer making them cheaper than the Innr) so I moved on to the proper Hue bulbs

The other option to consider is going down the z-wave route and using a z-wave switch to control the entire light fitting rather than replacing the bulbs. It can workout cheaper if you have a lot of bulbs across the house that you will end up replacing or a light fitting with built in/custom bulbs.

Smartthings finally have decent Hue integration so its now possible to control both from a single action without a laggy wait. You will need a z-wave hub, the switch, and a suitable faceplate.

If I hadn’t invested quite so much into my current hue setup, then that may be an option but now that seems a tad counterproductive.

I may just wait until the bulbs are on special (perhaps Maplin will be giving them away...) and bite the bullet then.

I felt like that till all I had left was the rooms with the custom light fittings and it was a choice between going z-wave or replacing the fitting to stick with Hue. I don't think there is a wrong answer if all you want is lighting, but I must admit the extra options that z-wave gives me for anything that plugs into the mains and the extra sensors is very useful. I guess Phillips must be looking at doing a mains socket at some point?

Just setup Home & Away now I have enough bulbs to make it useful, wondering if people have any tips etc?

Still annoyingly waiting for Ikea to get more GU10 stock then I should be pretty good for most of the flat.

Think I need to see some proper shots of the new outdoor lamps as I'm not sure if they look plasticky from those press shots. No way I'm paying that sort of money for something that looks cheap when turned off. If they do look good then I will be picking up a few to sort out my outdoor lighting, would be better than relying just on PIR as I do at present.

Probably cheaper to just choose a normal external light of your choice and stick a hue bulb in it. That’s what I’ve done for our side and back doors

Thats a great shame. I found it useful at night whilst on my laptop to check if upstairs lights had been left on, and switch them off. Now I have to get up and grab my phone.

Newbie to Phillips Hue here..

I am wanting to get some bulbs for my bathroom so that they can be dimmed/colour changed etc - seems like GU10 would be the easiest option but struggling to find an IP65 rated downlight fitting in Chrome that will take the hue bulbs - does anyone have any suggestions?

Do I need a hue hub to control a single bulb with Google home ? I just want a single GU10 for a lamp

We have a new wetroom and fitted 4 ambience GU10s and the LED strip. Electrician got some fittings in mind of the longer length, can't remember what they are though so I'll have look for the boxes.

Colour GU10s, I'm not so sure though, as they are longer again I think. Ambience aren't much bigger than usual really.

silly

OK, tad more than that. Control lights when away, colours, timings recipes for control etc. etc. There are strips as well as bulbs and motion sensors to tie up to the lights, auto on/auto of. It is quite varied.
