If I take a cab back from the pub late at night, I can whip out the phone and put my exterior lights on full blast, tell the driver it’s the house lit up like a Christmas tree, and go back to sleep
Whip out your phone? Why haven't you got it set up so it automatically turns on your exterior lights as you approach?Oakey said:

A couple of things to consider.
First which bulbs do you want to use? there's white ambience or colour ambiance available in GU10.
The white ambience will do white in various colour temperatures from cold blueish white to warm orangy white and are the same size as standard GU10s
The colour version are quite a bit longer so care needs to be taken to make sure they fit whatever fitting you buy.
Secondly the construction of the canopy makes a difference, if it has a watertight ceiling void you can install a downlighters fitting in then there's plenty of choice of IP rated bathroom fittings that would be suitable, they're rated from below so need the watertight ceiling void to work.
I have seen wall lights for outside that take 2 GU10 bulbs for up and down lighting but I'm not sure I've ever seen a self contained ceiling light that's fully IP rated without a void to install into.
If you don't have the void for downlighters then switching to E27 bulbs will give a choice of several IP rated fittings for surface mounting, the E27 bulbs are far superior in both light output and colour reproduction with much richer colours and in my experience much easier to find on offer.
Thanks @JimbobVFR - they will be under a canopy void and although my builder says they can go in "normal" fittings I want to other some protection to them by fitting in IP rated ones. There will be 4 GU10 bulbs along the 5m run under the canopy - these will be the standard white bulbs - no illuminations for my neighbours to view First which bulbs do you want to use? there's white ambience or colour ambiance available in GU10.

Does anyone use ambilight ?
I have an Ambilight tv and want some hue bulbs for the wall lights to link with the ambilight.

I have a 50” 6272 paired with 2 lamps either side and the main light and it works seamlessly. The only downside is they go to white instead of turning off when the screen is black. (I believe a limitation of hue) I have an Ambilight tv and want some hue bulbs for the wall lights to link with the ambilight.

As it is for me, I have to turn Ambilight+Hue off in the TV menu before I can use the app or remote to change the light.

Yea proximity based stuff is all well and good when you’re on your own
Coupled with SmartThings, I wrote an arrival trigger which doesn't do anything if somebody is already home.Hue = rubbish.
Hue + SmartThings = not quite as rubbish but still a bit limited with the logic
Hue + SmartThings + SmartThings custom apps = good.

Version 3 now available from App Store
While it's not a massive upgrade it is much better IMO.Just found if you hold your finger down on a room you can quickly select the 4 most recently used scenes and quickly adjust the colour of the whole room, o also like the limited grouping of bulbs.

Yeah, waiting for this, threw up some mismatched with home kit. Easier to use but in the habit of using home kit now.
Got an annoying home kit and siri mismatch at the moment. I cannot get rid of it. Don't want to reset the lot and start again!
Mine said it was a mismatch and then just imported the scenes I’d created in HomeKit to the hue app. Got an annoying home kit and siri mismatch at the moment. I cannot get rid of it. Don't want to reset the lot and start again!
I want to try this:
https://www.theverge.com/2018/5/31/17412314/philip...
but it seems to involve your phone in some way as you define "entertainment areas" there, in the v3 app, which I haven't yet installed.
Anyone tried it yet? It looks like fun!

I think it was in V2 if the app as it was already setup like this when I installed V3https://www.theverge.com/2018/5/31/17412314/philip...

I have an ambilight TV though rather than the razer setup but works great.

Article says: Philips is making its Hue Sync app available to anyone looking to synchronize their Hue lights with whatever’s running on their Windows or Mac computer.
So I guess it's not a TV thing which is a shame.
How could it be? There's no way for it to interface directly with your TV without going through a computer. So I guess it's not a TV thing which is a shame.
In an ideal world it's be implemented through the likes of the Netflix app or whatever but there's no incentive for them to incorporate it and there's the issue of HDCP.
