I've got it running on my mac now - and old model from 2009 and it's just great!

If you set it up to response to music, the response to the bass is instantaneous! It's rather good.

All it needs is for someone to create a little hdmi box to make it respond to whatever's flowing over that into an actual TV, rather than only working with computer monitors... If they did that, I'd get a couple of additional colour blubs to sit either side. So much less hassle than the raspberry pi ambilight knock-off I am yet to put together after the bits have been sitting in a box for a year...

How are you playing your music? I use Roon and it's not working with that.

It's normally £50!! I hate to think what I've spent across the house. It's got to the stage where the colour bulbs are used only in select places as the white ones are much cheaper. But "much" is relative!!!!

The cost wouldn't be so bad, but my girlfriend insists on using the light switches!

Nope - I've looked at Hue and discounted it:

The stupid situation with physical switches

Remote will not work without Hub

Lack of bulb sizes

and stupid prices, competitors are now making inroads

So name a competitor that does away with physical switches, without a hub offering lots of sizes for a good price?

Ikea offer tradfri but I believe the colour bulb is only available in one size at £35 the fact that you can often pickup a Philips bulb for the same price I’d go with the Philips.

TP-Link requires no hub but if it’s like their switches that I use a hub would probably make it work better. The hue bulbs never drop out in 2 years of ownership the TP-Link is twice a month if I’m lucky. The bulbs are also £35.

Hive is £35 a bulb and requires a hub and that is more expensive than a hue hub.

Lifx requires no hub but £60 a bulb.

So I’m not sure what competitors are making in roads.......

Also, what sizes are missing?

They have E27, B22, GU10 and E14 candles, the only bulb they don't yet do is E14 golf ball

What ? I have no idea what you mean
Philips made a remote that is completely the wrong size.

WRT to competitors I was thinking of Ikea and Innr.

It's only the colour GU10 which is longer, the White ambience (adjustable white between warm and cold white) are perfectly normal GU10 size.

Now I get what you mean. So you’re wanting to remove the physical switch and replace with the hue switch. I believe there is aftermarket blanking plates however I still prefer to have the physical switch.

As mentioned price wise Ikea and Innr aren’t any cheaper than Hue that are generally on sale.

Im led to believe the tradfri bulb cannot dim very low. Lowest is about 20% equivalent of the Hue. It also can only be adjusted to 3 colour temperatures unless hooked up to a hue hub so you would require 2 hubs.

Tradfri does 2200k, 2700k and 4000k, the Philips is adjustable between 2200k and 6500k

Philips Hue Labs

How do I assign certain bulbs to Philips Hue Labs?

I’ve moved some of my Hue bulbs around the house and now when I use Philips Hue Labs it only works on certain bulbs.
