Hi all, I’m having difficulty finding a dc cable extension for the Lightstrip plus. Everything seems to be be 5.5mm connector which doesn’t fit the control box. Does anyone have any insight into to where we can get the cable made? Need the length to be approx 5m.

Is this what you need? The same company (Litcessory) sell other adaptors and extension cables for Hue.

Note that there are several different versions of the Hue lightstrips, which have different connectors. The lightstrips that I bought recently don't have a connector between the power supply and the first lightstrip.

If you have several different Hue lights in one room, what's the best way to set them up in the Hue and Alexa apps?

In my living room, I have Hue bulbs in the main light fittings and in a row of downlights. At present, I have them set up as two different rooms in Hue, "Lounge Main" and "Lounge Background", and in the Hue app I control the two sets of lights individually. In the Alexa app I have assigned both sets to a smart home group, so "Alexa, Lights On" will turn on both sets of lights.

Putting all the lights in one room in the Hue app would make some things easier, such as changing all the lights to different scene, but it would be harder to control the sets of lights individually.

Hi Robfox, appreciate the reply. I’ve got the latest Lightstrip plus which has the led strip soldered in.

What I’m searching for is a longer lead for the controller to the mains adapter. The first pic is the original

The second pic is the only type I can find but is the wrong size.

If anyone can tell me the specs of the original cable that would be amazing.

Just cut the original cable, splice/solder in an extra length of cable? it wont be on show would it?

Hopefully be buying a 2nd gen colour and white starter kit today. Been wanting to delve into smart lighting for a while and seeing 3 bulbs and the bridge for £50 I thought i'd see what its all about.

Do people use the dimmer switch much?

That's a good price, where did you get it from?

I don't use the dimmer switch much for dimming but it's handy to have as an alternative on/off switch. Not everyone wants to walk around the house clicking on the app as you come and go into rooms.

Second hand locally smile I missed a deal in a Maplin before they closed down for £85 so I had to buy this when it popped up.

I figured i'd eventually get annoyed having to go on the phone to switch lights off so a switch will be bought. Motion detectors sound handy too.

An Alexa in every room defeats the need for using a phone or buttons.

Anyone tried this as alternative to the ruinously expensive hue strip? Fully compatible with Hue.

I've got a kitchen to do which with hue would take 7 x 2m kits (with a lot of waste) plus 6 x 1m extensions so about £590.

Using the above I can get away with 5 kits at a cost of round £190.

I've got a couple of motion sensors. Can you set them up to only operate when the lights are off? They're great for hallways and landings but I've also got a room that sometimes I sit in and sometimes I just walk through.

What I'd like is that if I'm sitting in the room with the lights on the motion sensors do nothing and the lights stay on even if I'm inactive. When I'm not in the room but walk through it (and it's dark) they come on.

As it stands I have to wave my arms every five minutes for the lights to come back on if I'm reading a book hehe
