Personally I'd say Philips Hue is a far superior system, the Ikea bulbs can be used with a Hue bridge so would probably be a good compromise.
This. Hue bridge with either IKEA or INNR bulbs.

Right, Alexa is beginning to bug my happiness and I've only set it up today. We have 2 echo and 2 dots in the house. But I cannot get them to drop in on each other. Drop in activated on all, and all online. But when I ask the lounge to drop into bedroom it refuses. Go into app and it shows them as being unavailable for drop in. I'm on a BT hub which I know causes certain issues.
It could be because the Echo's/Dots work on 2.4GHz, whereas it might be automatically connecting to your BT Hubs 5.0GHz. Its quite easy to go into your hubs settings and slit the two frequencies, and name them appropriately so you can tell Alexa to connect to the 2.4GHz frequency.

Other thing, which I have seen someone else mention here, but can no longer find the post or answer, is I have a Hue bridge linked, and it recognises the bulbs and rooms as separate devices. So it gets confused thinking there are multiple things called the same thing, when in reality there aren't. I "forget" the duplicate devices but it seems to keep finding them again.

Help
I have this duplicates problem sometimes. Someone on here told me to delete the different groups on my Philips Hue app on m phone, and just have groups on the Alexa app. If you have them on both then it can give Alexa a headache. Try deleting the groups on the Hue app if you have it.

The echos can operate on 5ghz. I actually had connection issues on my Virgin hub when connected as 2.4ghz.

And that would be me mentioning about deleting the hue groups. Since a couple of updates ago Alexa keeps pulling all groups and bulbs from the hue app.

The way I found to solve it (as mentioned) is to remove the groups from the hue app. You used to have to then go to Alexa.amazon.co.uk and delete the duplicates. However the latest Alexa update allows you to do it from the app. This has solved the issue.

My sister got a dot and echo for Christmas so I set them up the other day. They also had hive so paired that (a very painless process) it’s brilliant “Alexa what’s the house temperature?” “It’s 22degrees” “alexa heating to 20degrees” “heating 20degrees” that will be the next purchase I think.

Hue is connected via ethernet so won't be effected.

TBH being on different WiFi bands shouldn't effect things anyway, I've got various devices working perfectly together, some on 2.4Ghz, some on 5Ghz and others connected via ethernet.

There seem to be an awful lot of devices showing when I look in the Alexa app/website. Ive just noticed that my 3 x Philips Hue lightbulbs are now showing as Royal Philips Electronic Smart Device??? When did that happen?

In total I have just 2 x Philips Hue lightbulbs in my living room, and 1x light bulb in a bedroom. Yet Alexa finds all the different devices in the image below. Should I delete/forget some of them?

Echo now locked away by wife due to what could best be termed addictive behaviour by daughter. This is going well...

Should've opted for Google home hehe

In all seriousness though, it looks like Alexa has just picked up the various combination of rooms / bulbs.. e.g. you got an option for all bulbs, bedroom bulbs and each individual bulb.

When I got my Echo Dot a few months ago, I bought a couple of TP Link HS100 smart plugs. Although they've always worked fine though TP Link's own app, Kasa, I've never got them to work with the Echo - Alexa simply doesn't find them when I ask to discover devices (either thru the app or by voice command).

I exchanged a couple of e-mails with both Amazon and TP Link support and did everything they suggested but to no avail. I ended up giving up on them but now I've got a few days off, I thought I'd have another go at them. So this morning, I factory reset my router, my dot, and both plugs and uninstalled the Alexa and Kasa apps and started again from scratch. Much to my annoyance, exactly the same thing happened - everthing was fine until Alexa tries to discover the plugs, at which point they seem to become invisible. They still work fine with Kasa, though.

I'm a bit stumped as to what else I can do to get them working. Has anyone had similar issues or have any suggestions as to a possible solution?

Maybe try renaming the TP Link plugs and trying again?

Are the plugs on the same physical wireless network (no repeater or AP) ?

I finally have everything working as it should and didn’t need to mess about with frequencies on my router. Did have to do a factory reset on all the echo devices and set up from scratch. But it is now streaming as it should, drop in is working and I have full control of my lights and smart plugs.

Alexa's back and daughter is looking at the web to find questions to ask her. Madness.
