amazon are doing some crazy deals on the show today..

two shows + two buttons for £179!
No it isn't .. think you've misread the deal.

Two shows + Two Buttons will cost you £280 today, instead of £420.

There is no deal on the buttons ..

The show is £60 off today (£199.99 down to £139.99) and you save an additional £20 if you buy 2.

Loads of reviews suggest the show has worse voice recognition than any other echo device.

That’s a good price but I guess most people are still looking at the spot instead.

I just can’t see why I’d want a screen that I can’t move and is too small to be a TV.

Clock for the bedroom? (or any other room of course!)

That’s it really but even at £160 and with inferior Alexa ability than the spot which is often around £100 it seems like the spot would be a better alarm clock.

I obviously want one and am trying to talk myself out of it. hehe

Has anyone got a spot and a show?

I fancy a spot too.. apparently the sound out of it is much nicer than the dot and it would make a great 'classical playlist' bedtime radio.

Lastly, anyone think 'spot and show' sounds a bit, er, gross ?

I've got a Spot and it's pretty decent, good enough that Dot has been relegated into the Kitchen hooked up to an Amp and speakers..

The Spot is more than enough for simple bedroom background music / morning alarm clock / wake up to radio

There's more weight to the music and it's nicer / clearer than the Dot ( i had the Dot connected to a little bluetooth speaker for more oomph)

The screen is nice enough to be read across the room and displays weather and current music selection and whatever else is relevant to what you've just asked of it...

Voice recognition seems better than the Dot, and it seems to be able to pick up your voice over the current music playing, so you're not often stood shouting at the thing to turn off / on the motherfunkin lights / music / etc

What's quite nice is that you can say "Alexa turn the screen off" and it's much pretty much off, handy if you like total darkness when sleeping...

thumbs up from me and lovin the Deezer integration...

Custom routines available now.,

You can get Alexa to say anything you want as a response or at certain times.

last night when my wife said “Alexa goodnight” and instead of turning off the lights and saying goodnight, it swore at her and told her to do it herself.

Just got myself 2 Echos and pleased so far.
I've ventured using IFTTT to integrate with iOS but can't seem to get it working.
The 2 IFTTT Applets I've got are to sync To-Do with iCloud reminders and also add Shopping Lists on Alexa as new list in Reminders.
Everything looks fine on the IFTTT end but I can't see it being updated on iCloud reminders.
Any ideas guys?

The Spot does sound better and appear to have a better microphone than the Dot (IMO)

I quite like the screen, as when using it as a kitchen timer you can glance to see how long is left, rather than ask.

Yeah I agree, I got a spot the other day when they were down to £100, it’s got a much better speaker than the dot an dthe voice recognition is definitely better.

Anyone having issues with Hue and Alexa.

My Hue was not responding so I stupidly disabled the skill, planning to enable again and set up again but now I can't enable the skill. I can't sign into the hue app either though so guessing a Hue issue.

Yeah it’s a known hue software update issue.

Same question for Tradfri and Alexa, stopped working a couple of days ago.

It allows me to add the lights back in after removing them in the Alexa app, but it just wont control the light.

I hope its sorted soon then. My dog walker / mum has just got used to having to speak to Alexa to work the lights.

Spot owners:

Are they any good?
I could potentially get a bit of money off one with some vouchers (it'd be £90) and I'm considering one. I like the idea of being able to view cameras (Ring & Arlo) with it, but is the screen a bit small for that?
I'm thinking to put it in the kitchen, but I'm not a Youtube-cook type - it's just that the kitchen needs an Echo of some description.

If they're a bit naff I'll probably just get another Dot.

Spot owner here. Good screen and excellent for viewing Ring cameras.

I use mine as a bedside clock radio etc. If the cameras ping in the night it's handy to have a quick look what's outside.

You do of course have to request camera view. It doesn't display automatically.....unless I've missed something.
