I like mine, it’s in the kitchen. It’s a nice looking clock, got an ok speaker and I link it to the echo plus in the sitting room when playing music. It’s a camera also if you drop in on it through your phone. I don’t often use the YouTube, sometimes bbc news and the doorbell camera.

Like all these echo devices, it’s a neat little gadget but it’s not really life changing. It’s definitely my favourite echo device though.

That looks really interesting, although the lack of Dolby Vision support is likely to be a deal breaker for some. Given that it seems to be winning the HDR war with HDR10 that could be a bit of an issue - but that aside, with the Harmony type controls it looks like a lot of tech for the money.

Want.

I got the harmony hub after the PHs thread a while back, it works great but I still find myself using the sky remote for accessing some menus on sky and the interactive stuff.

This echo cube could finally be a robust all in one solution with one single remote. The fact that it’s amazon also means more and more stuff will integrate with it.

Amazon replaces another device in my house with one that listens and ties us into amazon shopping and amazon prime and amazon tv and whatever amazon are going into next. hehe

No Gigabit LAN. 10/100 Ethernet isn't enough if you like to rip your UHD's to a hard drive.

I might get the cube to replace my Echo dot and FireTV box, I've got a harmony remote. It says that the cube won't connect to a speaker by Bluetooth, I currently connect my dot to the TV soundbar that way to play music on Spotify. So it's wait for reviews time to see if the speaker part is better than a dot.

One other thing, there's an advert on at the moment where they are watching Handmaid's Tale on a Fire and stop it to order the book from Amazon on the TV. I'm not sure whether they're doing that through talking to the fire TV or an Echo, or what things on the store you're able to order or look up with it. Any ideas?

I think you do it through the Echo/Dot by voice. Fire TV is Alexa enabled though presume you could do the same through the voice remote?

Speaker quality is 'very similar to that of the Dot' https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/06/amazons-fi...

Surely speaker quality is irrelevant - you're going to be using it with an attached sound system?

Anyone else having an issue with Alexa this evening? My dot is working fine but normal echo and is red ring off death and the Alexa app has kicked me out and won’t sign back in?

Been login issues too.

G/F's echo was working fine last night.

ETA : News says their websites crashed, so guess we were lucky when we were using it.

If anyone hasn’t seen it, there’s still a few hours left of huge reductions on echo devices and things like ring doorbells etc on the amazon prime sale.

I've already got most of the things on sale smart home related. Grabbed a couple of dots for £50 for better coverage though. Still can't justify the Spot though.

I wanted a spot for the bedroom but the Show is only £10 more so I got the show instead. Already have an original Echo.

I have to wait until Saturday for delivery which is the longest I have ever had to wait for an Amazon delivery.

As a non-techie I could read all the blurb and still not have a clue - what are the obvious difference between the show and the spot?

I chose it over the spot as it has a bigger screen, which to be fair I don't know why I want a big screen as its intended for bedroom as an alarm clock/music player. It also has better speakers. The fact it only cost £10 more is what swung it for me.

I think the spot it is aimed for the bedroom where as the show can go anywhere.

Anyone have any thoughts on the best dimmable light switches to use?
Also, what are the best plug sockets to use? Need ones that we can turn off using Alexa or an app.

TP Link HS100's for smart plugs, I've got half a dozen and they do the job nicely. Don't pay more than £15 though, they're on offer fairly regularly.
