That’s exactly what will happen, I still do this to my kids when I’m away. It never wears out.

You could get one of those Philips switches which are also like a remote and just link it to her light.

Or get a third party app but only put her light on it, But then she can still use it to control the light from her house, but just that light.

I’m not aware of any where you temporarily grant access.
Such a "Dad thing" smile

I set a routine on ours that if my wife says "Play Radio 4" it plays Rick Astley - Never going to give you up , an alexa Rick-Roll

I find it hilarious but i'm the only one in the family that does

Random question - as I don't really know what search terms to use...

My kids are with me this week (Yay!) and my daughter wants to change the colour of her bulb from her phone. Is there a way to do this or do I have to log her in as me on her phone. What I don't want is for her to be at (her) home and turning my things on and off - And she would too as it'd be hilarious (!)...

I kind of worked it out - But not with Alexa. The bulb needs a third party app which Alexa then controls - It's this that I can delegate rights with, within that app which works. She can change the colours and turn it on and off, but Alexa can still do it if I want to as well.

How does the Amazon cube (or any other for that matter) control the TV, I see you can tell Alexa to turn the tv on etc. It seems it's only connected via HDMI, so must the TV be enabled for this?

Can't speak for the cube but our TV is not enabled for this. We set up the Logitec Harmony remote to replace/replicate the existing remotes. Alexa then controls the remote rather than the TV directly.

It has IR built in and emulates a "normal" remote

thumbup

Will ensure the new tv has that, so will work with the cube once I have one.

“To get started, just say, “Alexa, introduce me to Samuel L. Jackson.” Then, choose whether you’d like Sam to use explicit language or not. If you change your mind later, simply go to the settings menu of the Alexa app to toggle between clean and explicit content.”

How do you get Alexa to do something from a simple command?

For example, at the moment I say "Alexa, turn on the lounge lights" How can I make that simply "Alexa, lights on" and the lounge lights come on?

We don't have any other lights connected to Alexa, but if we did, I guess I could change it to room specific.

I think you could probably name your lounge "lights" and then says Alexa, lights on (assuming you only have lights in the lounge, or that probably has limited mileage).

At the moment you should be able to say Alexa, lounge on.

Make a group in the Alexa app for the stuff in each room, then you will be able to say "Alexa turn on light" for the light in that room.

I just tried it.

Alexa said: "Sorry, Mister Jackson isn't available here yet. The path of the righteous AI is beset on all sides by inequities".

At least she didn't call me a mother-censored

Add a new routine: when this happens/Voice/enter phrase "lights on", add action/Smart Home/select device

If I say that, the lights in the same room as the nearest Alexa get turned on.

I found it, it's in routines. You can set up so that if you say "Alexa --------" in a particular group, lounge for instance, then that instruction does what you've set up.

So I can set up the lounge group lights to come on when I say "Alexa, you smell" and go off when I say "Alexa, Laura's farted" for instance.

I'm having a number of problems with mine lately which generally result in me saying "fk off" a lot to Alexa - I've got 4 devices in the house which, for the most part, pick things up fine. However, I've got a routine of "Alexa, lights" which turns on the downstairs lights - Every now and then, I'll get the response of "can't find anything named lights" - It's getting on my nerves.

On top of this, it looks like the default TuneIn app, no longer has some BBC Radio stations - And the BBC Radio skill doesn't seem to do multi room. I'm starting to get a little jaded with Alexa now as it's gone from being helpful, to a pain in the arse...

Is it me?

I noticed this morning Radio 6 came back with a fault message when asked to play on Alexa. Yet yesterday I was abroad and Alexa played it fine?!
