My 4S recently died, so I'm using am iPhone 3G until the 6S arrives. That should be a pretty decent upgrade!
Looks like the rumoured smaller screen '6C' might not happen. Shame, because I think even the regular 6 is stupidly large.

I jumped from an iPhone 6 to a Galaxy S6 a couple of months ago.
If the 6S / iOS9 comes with the ability to actually work with files easily and attach multiple files to one email then I'd consider going back to an iPhone.
So yeah, that.
I've just added photos, a PowerPoint that was zipped and a word document into one email. I'm on ios9. If the 6S / iOS9 comes with the ability to actually work with files easily and attach multiple files to one email then I'd consider going back to an iPhone.

What I do know is ios9 is brilliant.
Me and my OH both using it, me on a 5 and her on a 5c. Both devices run slightly quicker than before, and battery life is improved too. I thought it was a good step forward TBH.

Not expecting any drastic updates to the phones exterior.
What I am expecting:
Faster processor and RAM
Better battery life - Fed up with them touting this every time. My 6 is 7 months old and lasts a day
Better screen resolution
A few more apps that I will probably never use
I use my phone for watching TV on the train and I'd like the bigger screen of the +. Think I'll go for the 7+ as I'm not due an upgrade until January 2017 (So long away!)

Better to buy outright - no waiting on upgrades What I am expecting:

Slightly off topic, but seeing that battery life has been mentioned as a possible improvement, how long are people getting out of their current iPhone 6? I'm getting a maximum of about 10 hours out of mine with moderate use - mainly browsing the net and very few calls.
6+ here. Heavy use, emails, apps, music most of the day and still home with 40-50%. Sometimes use it for golf as well in evening and can drop to 20-25%, never any less. That's on days I forget to plug it in at my desk....Not really an issue for me and much better than any phone I've ever owned.
