Does anyone know what router Gigaclear are currently using? Due installation soon, I'm guessing the router will not be wonderful....

When our Gigaclear connection was installed a couple of months ago, I asked them about the cable to the house. It is fibre optic and it’s shot through the whole distance to the cabinet, so I don’t think there’s any way you can repair or replace it yourself. The pot at the end of the drive is simply an access point before you get connected.

Pretty much what I remember reading.

Do you know what make & model of router they installed?

I think it’s a Genexis DRG700. I don’t use it as a router; I had Google Wifi already so just plugged that in.

It is mounted to the interior wall where the fibre comes in, so there’s no opportunity to move it around. Based on what I’ve read and was told by the installers, it’s not all that great for wifi. Been totally stable since we’ve had it without needing to turn it off and on again.

Pretty sure the POT at the end of your drive is where the fibre optic ends, in as much as every property has one, and every property has it's own fibre going back to the cabinet.
When/if you choose to have the service, a new/separate piece of fibre optic is plugged in at the pot and ends up just inside your house....so in theory at least you could replace it. Splicing a new piece to replace the damaged bit is more common.

I think the current router is a Genexis DRG-700...and I know Gigaclear are constantly berated for it's choice and constantly reviewing what type to provide to reduce the criticism.

I am absolutely certain that the fibre to my house runs all the way to the cabinet since I saw them connecting it and specifically asked them about it. The pot in the road is just a small pipe for the fibre to run through until the house is connected.

ETA: I wonder if this is because I was the first connection to the cabinet when it came to our village? https://northmoorbroadband.co.uk/2014/07/03/whats-... suggests that there are fibres to the pots. Will have to lift the lid on my neighbour's pot (who I know haven't bothered with Gigaclear yet) to see what's in there.

Superfast Berkshire Phase 3 - Kiln Green, Hare Hatch, Knowl Hill, Reading, Ruscombe, Twyford, Wargrave

After numerous delays, we have been promised connection by the end of August but many roads in this area - including mine - haven't seen any sign of the Gigaclear trench diggers and I'm not aware of anyone who has actually been connected yet…albeit a few now have their POTS.

So, is anyone here from RG10 area up and running? And how long should the process take from first sighting of the trenching team?

Us oldies have an equal chance of dying/seeing a streamed movie.

The pot at the edge of your property will be a fibre cable not a tube .

Does anyone know if having a cabinet installed give any indication of when installation is likely?

I ask as I'm losing the will to live with these people.

First, it'll be June, then it'll be July, now it'll be August. Well it might be. But no, can't say if that's an accurate date. And no, can't explain why.

This is on the back of a three month fiasco about way leaves that they initiated and wasted a lot of my time.

And then there was the bizarre conversation with some Hooray Henrietta about which side of the road the pot would be on and who would be

digging up the road.

I sincerely hope their tech is better than their woeful CS.

Other than lack of info until they were actually ready to install, I didn't find the customer services to be bad at all. And the tech is fine (if you don't rely on the wifi from the supplied router, reputedly - I've never tried that).

Cabinet installation happened almost simultaneously with the pots in our village. There was a bit of a delay, presumably while they were completing the loop or whatever back to the main fibre, then it was up and running really quickly. So I think cabinets are a very positive sign that you may be able to have your connection shortly.

Have you already ordered? We were able to place the order well before they even reached our village, and Gigaclear contacted me as soon as we could be connected. They were on site the day after that, IIRC.

Yes ordered some time ago. Cabinet has been sitting at the bottom of my land since May. I'll be using BT Mesh, so that's ok.

My (timescale) beef with CS is that they keep moving the goalposts without explanation. All responses are scripted and designed to block. Reminds me of a pre Glasnost Yugoslavian restaurant service, believe me, it was grim.

Hi Ian,

I can certainly empathise with your frustration. I have 3 properties which come under the inkpen exchange.
1 of them is live and running. It has a perfectly stable connection running at 980mb/s up and down. (on the 1G package)

The other two properties however are a joke. One is literally 50 meters down the road from the connected property and gigaclear simply say connection and completion in January 2019. Despite the website material saying completion in August 2018. The chaps digging up the road have quite literally abandoned work for the last 3 weeks leaving cables and cones on the road.

If I had ANY alternative I would switch, however given they are the only provider I am well and truly stuck.

The reason I'm scouring this forum is trying to find a way to use the gigaclear router as a bridge for a decent router. The router they have provided really isn't suitable IMO. (Any tips gratefully received)

Our router repeatedly drops speakers for our Sonos system and despite a 1000mb/s wired connection, over wireless I'm barely getting speeds above 20mb/s even standing 10m with clear line of sight to the router. Hence the wish to install a decent router and just use gigalcear as a modem/accesspoint. Now I find out they prevent this.

I went and bought a TP link powerline range extender. This has improved things somewhat, however we are still having issues with the sonos dropping out and overall I'm miffed that the router they provide simply isn't capable of the job.

This post has turned into a rant. Apologies if it isn't particularly constructive!

Apart from turning off the Wifi on my Gigaclear router, I’ve done nothing but plug Google WiFi into it using an ethernet cable. Wirks fine; though I’m not sophisticated enough to know why you’d want to set it into bridge mode so didn’t know that was prohibited.

1. There was someone on here that worked for GigaNotVeryClear. I don't know if he's still around or if he is still with them.

2. I've just written to the CEO to see if he can throw light on the darkness.

3. What's stopping you using a mesh system, that's my intention.

The workmen weren’t telling porkies. I’ve fibally lifted the lid on my neighbour’s pot which is not connected. It is definitely a tube through which the fibre will be fed on connection. Pics below including my connected pot adjacent.

That pot is an access point, a single piece of fibre will be blown down that tube by a machine and pop up in the cabinet. Every house will have its own dedicated tube inside ducting.

From there the fibre will run to the property via ducting in the garden to the house where it will terminate into a clever device that will turn light signal to electrical signal.

That’s exactly what I posted originally. Seems not to be universally the case though.
