If you want the best wifi performance then just buy a Ubiquiti Unifi AC AP...it really is that simple.

Ours went down at the same time, so I suspect we're in the same area.
To be fair that's the only time it's gone down unexpectedly for so long, but you're right about the infrastructure...it's pretty shoddy!

Just because Gigaclear had one unplanned outage doesn't make them 'unreliable'. Compared to BT they're like night and day. Outages are very rare indeed, and when they do happen - they email and text regularly to keep you in the loop.
The service is simply superb. Their support either by email or phone is also very good.

The only problem is the wireless on the router they provide (covered in detail in this thread).
All you need to do is disable the routers built in WiFi, plug in another access point (could be your old router if it's decent) and use the WiFi only.
I've got a couple of Ubiquiti's in the house which have been flawless.

Don't forget that ditching BT also means you can port your number over to Vonage. You can install the app on your mobile and answer your house phone from anywhere with a decent wifi/4g signal and read messages in the form of an email etc (speech to text which works well enough to get the gist).
Maybe you can do this with BT now...I dunno?
It certainly feels like we've been shoved into the future since we switched to GC compared to the BT days. No more shouting at the kids because they're chewing up all the bandwidth with Youtube or downloading from Steam. Flow control and QoS are a thing of the past!

I can forgive the few outages because I understand it's a growing network and these things happen with any new modern 'thing'.

Just thought I'd ask if everyone's still happy (or otherwise) with their Gigaclear broadband?
Still no complaints here.
No outages for a good few months either.

As for getting the service - it depends if you selected the self install or contractor install option?
If you did a self install, they'll send you a nice kit with all the bits you need. Then you need to run the fibre from the pot in the street to your house. I ran mine through some conduit tubing to make it a nicer job.

Can't say I'm surprised and I've a feeling that with 5G on the horizon and falling 4G prices, outfits like this have an uncertain future.

It'll be interesting to see what happens when 5G gets established...
But unless you're house has a 5G antenna in the garden, you won't get near Gigaclear's speeds. The problem with 5G is that it's very high frequency, so buildings and trees etc will reduce the signal strength significantly. Also there is the issue of data capping unless you pay quite a lot.

I've had Gigaclear for over a year now and it's been completely rock solid. Any outages (only 3 or 4) have been advised well in advance and usually happen in the early hours. Having 200mbps on tap is amazing.
