Friend gave me his wife's old MBA a while ago as i said i was after one but i'd already bought myself one at that point, I kept it though as thought it could be useful for kids etc

2 problems;

1) I don't have the admin password and they can't remember it either nor do they the install discs etc so can't update the OS or wipe clean
2) battery is shagged, won't run for more than 3 mins without a charger

best / safest way to dispose of it?

What size is it?

If it's an 11", and the price is sensible I might be interested for spares - mine is on the way out and I'm trying to hold out on a full replacement until Sept/Oct when the new laptop range is likely to be out.

If it's a 13" I need a screen lol.

Break it on here and you'll make many happy PH'ers!

Mines a 2010 model so it might work. PM me how much you want for it. I will of course make sure it will never be usable again from a data point of view.

Hi, I didn't get any PM? But I have just tried to PM you and it says you don't accept emails? Maybe that's the issue? I know PH PM's don't always work

Stick it on eBay or Gumtree, or try the classifieds on here, you'll get something for it. Personally I'd remove the hard drive first, your friends may have some personal data on there.

Will the latest OS run on that machine? Zero the disc out first at the very least.

Latest OS is free and can be run from a cd I think.

Not sure if that vintage MBA supports it, but you can recover from internet (which is what i did to re-install my MBP).

With regards to the battery, you're out of luck I believe, but if it's only likely to be used when connected to a power supply in a study somewhere then it should be fine.
