I don't have an account and never have, I have had to set up some rules to stop them when I use safari. Quite a few were going out according to little snitch.

Since disabling the microphone access in the Safari settings, rather than the settings in "privacy", I have stopped seeing the adverts based on things only spoken about.
No one has ever been shown ads based on things spoken about. Read the article posted earlier.

i find it weird that no nerds on the Internet have ever seemingly done a proper test of this to see what the evidence really is. We always seem to be working off the basis that Fred from Dorset could have sworn that he didn't google table lamps but yet here is an ad for one.

I disagree. Had far too many occurrences. I expect its key words rather than conversations though. https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-a...

I have... then I took away permissions from Google on my phone for microphone access... haven't had one since!

Me too, I had an advert about something I was discussing with a family member I never rarely see, over Xmas, and something I have absolutely no interest in, never searched or even so much as thought about, but on the first day back home after Xmas I get an advert for what we were discussing.

As mentioned probably during this thread, why do people have these apps?
I find the FB website more than adequate for all uses. The only thing "missing" would be notifications... Which I would turn off anyway.
The linked in app is another matter. I don't want it on my phone as it's a very greedy app, and I know I can turn off most permissions but I don't think I should.
The website keeps pushing you towards the app to the point that I've stopped using linkedin on my phone.

I didn't have the FB app installed, mine was ads shown on the FB web site itself when browsing on the phone using Safari.

Time. doing stuff. And wondering why the hell my browser is trying to connect to facebook without me asking. Even today. Little Snitch is handy blocking that stuff. Seems to be web pages where the owners are on facebook at the very least.

Smartphone, bizarrely making calls.

You haven’t ever been served ads based on things spoken about in earshot of your phone, and you haven’t had any ads like that since deactivating mic permissions because they never occurred in the first place.

Most likely a case of coincidence with a sprinkling of heightened awareness.

What was the ad for?

interesting, maybe useful, add-on to Mozilla Firefox, 'compartmentalises' your Facebook info, stops facebook tracking your other browsing habits
